Washington, Jul 22 (PTI) Attacking China for its aggressive moves against its neighbours, including "instigating" a deadly confrontation with India in eastern Ladakh, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that Beijing cannot threaten countries and bully them in the Himalayas.

Speaking at a news conference in London on Tuesday, Pompeo said China was one of the important parts of his discussions with his British counterpart Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

US lawmakers pass legislation urging China to de-escalate situation with India along LAC

Washington, Jul 22 (PTI) The US House of Representatives has passed a bipartisan legislation, urging China to peacefully de-escalate the situation with India along the Line of Actual Control.

The legislation on Tuesday came a day after the House unanimously passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), slamming China's aggression against India in the Galwan Valley and its growing territorial assertiveness in and around disputed areas like the South China Sea.

USA: Thousands to walk off job to protest racial inequality

New York, Jul 20 (AP/PTI) Organisers of a national workers strike say tens of thousands are set to walk off the job Monday in more than two dozen US cities to protest systemic racism and economic inequality that has only worsened during the coronavirus pandemic.

Dubbed the Strike for Black Lives, labor unions, along with social and racial justice organisations from New York City to Los Angeles, will participate in a range of planned actions.

Washington, Jul 17 (PTI) China has been acting in contradiction to its agreements with India to change the status quo and challenge Indian troops at the border, an influential bipartisan Congressional Caucus has said and hoped that Beijing will scale back on their excessive weaponry and infrastructure at the Line of Actual Control.

The Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans on Thursday also expressed their condolences for the lives lost in the Galwan Valley.

USA: Delta expects to take $3 billion charge to cover job losses

Washington, Jul 15 (AP/PTI) Delta Air Lines said Wednesday that it expects to take a charge of USD 2.7 billion to USD 3.3 billion to cover the cost of early retirements and buyouts for employees as it shrinks in response to a sharp decline in air travel.

The airline said this week that 17,000 employees have agreed to depart.

Delta said in a regulatory filing that 500 million to 600 million of the charge would go toward cash payments to pilots, flight attendants, ground workers and other departing employees in the July-September quarter.

US sympathetic to France in standoff with Turkey over warships

Paris, Jul 16 (AP/PTI) The White House national security adviser says the US is very sympathetic to France in its dispute with Turkey over a naval standoff in the Mediterranean Sea between the two NATO allies.

The festering row has exposed NATO's struggle to keep order among its ranks, and its diminished US leadership under President Donald Trump.

Trump administration rescinds rule on foreign students policy

Washington, Jul 15 (PTI) In a surprise U-turn, the Trump administration has dropped its controversial plan to deport hundreds and thousands of international students, including Indians, if their universities switch to online-only classes in this fall semester due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On July 6, the US immigration authority announced that foreign students will have to leave the country or risk deportation if their universities switch to online-only classes during the September to December semester.
