New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) Cooperative Nafed on Saturday invited bids from importers for supply of 15,000 tonnes of red onions by November 20 in order to boost the domestic availability and check price rise.

The cooperative has asked bidders to supply 40 to 60 mm size of red onions from any country of origin at Rs 50 per kg by November 20. They can bid for a minimum quantity of 2,000 tonnes to be supplied in multiple lots of 500 tonnes, it said.

30 Oct 2020; MEMO: The Trump administration has notified Congress of its intent to sell advanced F-35 fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a key lawmaker announced Thursday, Anadolu Agency reports.

Outgoing House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel confirmed the notification, saying its export “requires very careful consideration and Congress must analyze all of the ramifications.”

Engel cited in particular, possible ramifications for “Israel’s military edge” in the region.

30 Oct 2020; MEMO: Sudan’s transitional government has stripped thousands of foreigners, including Syrians, from their naturalised Sudanese citizenship, Erm News reported yesterday.

In an official statement, the government said that the foreigners had acquired the Sudanese nationality in “illegitimate ways during the era of the ousted President Omar Al-Bashir.”

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The government on Thursday banned exports of onion seeds with immediate effect amidst rising prices of the bulb in the domestic markets.

Earlier, the export of onion seeds was in the restricted category, which means an exporter was required to obtain a licence or permission from the government for shipments.

"The export of onion seeds is prohibited, with immediate effect," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

29 Oct 2020; MEMO: Iranian authorities have proposed a plan to build the largest commercial port in the city of Jask, east of the Strait of Hormuz, expecting it to become an economic and commercial centre within ten years, RT reported on Wednesday.

General Fereydoun Hemmati, governor of Hormozgan, announced that the initial proposal was submitted, and decisions were immediately taken in coordination with the Ministry of Roads, Ports and Maritime Organisation.

29 Oct 2020; MEMO: Jordan is reported to have granted permission for the establishment of the Saudi-Jordanian Investment Fund.

The fund has the right to own, develop, operate, manage and exploit certain specific projects worth at least $5 billion.

The projects include constructing the national railway system which would connect the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the port city of Aqaba.

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The Union Cabinet on Thursday raised the price of ethanol for doping in petrol by 5-8 per cent, I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar said.

The move will help farmers get remunerative price while also cutting down oil imports, he said.

As much as 10 per cent ethanol is doped in petrol.

The move also checks pollution as ethanol is environment-friendly, the minister added.
