India and Norway aim to expand trade ties

New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) India and Norway on Tuesday carried out a comprehensive review of their fast expanding relationship and resolved to further boost trade and investment ties.

The two sides deliberated on a range of key issues at a virtual meeting of the India-Norway Joint Commission which was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Norwegian counterpart Ine Eriksen S reide.

China's trade growth accelerates in Sept; exports up 9.9%

Beijing, Oct 13 (AP/PTI) China's trade growth accelerated in September as the world's second-largest economy recovered from the coronavirus pandemic.

Exports rose 9.9% over a year earlier to 239.8 billion, up from August's 9.5% growth, customs data showed Tuesday. Imports gained 13.2% to 202.8 billion, up from the previous month's 2.1% contraction.

India: Industrial production declines 8 pc in August

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Industrial production declined by 8 per cent in August, mainly due to lower output of manufacturing, mining and power generation sectors, official data showed on Monday.

According to the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data, manufacturing sector production registered a decline of 8.6 per cent, while the output of mining and power segments fell 9.8 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively.

The IIP had contracted by 1.4 per cent in August 2019.

India: Tender for Rs 20,000-crore LPD project for Navy scrapped

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) The Indian Navy has scrapped a tender to procure four Landing Platform Docks or amphibious warships at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, nearly seven years after launching the acquisition process, government sources said.

The withdrawal of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the long-pending project was triggered by the Navy's requirement of new specifications for the amphibious warships which are known as Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), the sources said.

Saudi Prince calls for boycotting Turkey imports

11 Oct 2020; MEMO: Saudi Prince Abdulrahman Bin Musa’ad has called for boycotting Turkish imports after Turkish President Erdogan announced that his country’s army in Qatar helps stabilise security in the Gulf states.

According to The New Khalij, the prince retweeted Erdogan’s remarks and wrote: “Therefore, I call for a full popular boycott for the Turkish products in order to protect the stability of Turkish economy and strengthen it.”

PA asks Qatar to mediate for Israel to end unpaid tax revenues crisis

11 Oct 2020; MEMO: As the financial situation of the Palestinian Authority (PA) worsens, the PA asked Qatar to mediate for Israel to help end the crisis of unpaid tax revenues, Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Friday.

An informed source told the London-based newspaper that PA officials met Qatari officials in Doha and discussed the issue of unpaid tax revenues estimated at over a billion US dollars.

Israel will oppose any US F-35 sale to Qatar

11 Oct 2020; MEMO: Israel will oppose any US sale of F-35 warplanes to Qatar, Israel’s intelligence minister said on Sunday, citing a need to maintain Israeli military superiority in the region, Reuters reports.

Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen made the comments on Israeli Army Radio when asked about a Reuters report that Qatar had submitted a formal request to Washington to buy stealthy F-35 fighter jets.

Iran's rial hits new low against dollar as economy reels

10 Oct 2020; MEMO: The Iranian rial fell to a new low against the US dollar on Saturday as the economy reels under pressure from the COVID-19 pandemic and US sanctions.

The dollar was selling for as much as 304,300 rials on the unofficial market, up from 295,940 on Friday, according to the foreign exchange site Bonbast.com.

The economic daily Donya-e-Eqtesad’s website gave the dollar rate as 303,300, up 6,000 rials from Friday.
