India: Teachers exchange physical blows

KANPUR: There was free-for-all situation in Block Sansadhan Kendra at Bhitargaon under Ghatampur Tehsil on Saturday. A brawl initiated over the payment of the uniform supplied to the primary schools. Teachers exchanged fists, stone pelting and even used sticks.

According to the reports, the primary teachers’ training programme for upgrading education was underway at Birhar & Nauranga Nyay Panchayat under Bhitargaon Block.  On Saturday afternoon the uniform supplier reached Birankheda Primary School and requested the school principal for the payment. He also contacted the school’s ex-principal. It was during his term he had supplied the uniforms for the students.

When the supplier narrated his account to the ex-principal he thought something. He reached the school and soon got entangled into the arguments with the present principal of the school. Both even indulged in fighting. Seeing the severity of the situation, some teachers also came in favour of the present principal. Sooner the school ground turned into a battlefield. Bricks were even hurled at one another. Looking at the injury of a few teachers one lady teacher had to flee from the school campus.

Bhitargaon police post In-charge reached the school and tried to pacify them.  There started the rounds of complaints and counter complaints. One teacher’s wrist was reported to have been injured. He made it clear that action would be taken only after a written complaint. Report from Block Shiksha Adhikari was also sought in this regard.
