India: Election pattern changed in Manchester of East

Kanpur: As many as 11 Parliamentarians have so far been sent to Dome of Democracy from  Kanpur. This figure covers all the 18 general elections held from the year1951 to 2014.

The party-wise figure goes thus: Congress 7,BJP 4,Independent 4, Praja Socialist Party 1,BLD 1, CPI 1.

There were 8 independent candidates who contested election in the year 2004. It was for the first time in the history of Kanpur a total of 16 candidates were in the fray.  

SM Bannerjee was elected four times whose record was not even broken by either Jagatveer Singh Drond or Sri Prakash  Jaiswal. 

In the first bye-election Shiv Narayan Tandon won poll in 1952. Afterwards Rajaram Shastri of PSP completed his five-year term upto 1957.

A candidate who was championing the cause of labour class used to be elected in previous polls but now the situation has been wholly changed.
