India: Neither file nomination nor vote for, rues Belapati

KANPUR: Flaying the system for her failure in filing nomination for a parliamentry seat here, an aged woman expressed her deep ire at the mismanagement. She could not file her nomination papers because her name was omitted from the Voter's list this year.

Known as Belapati Pasi, a stone cutter, often seen sitting under Babupurwa bridge she decided to contest election for the poor's cause.

When she approached before the election office at the Collectorate here, she was made aware about her name deleted from the list. She had to file nomination for the Al-Hind Party.

The party's  national president Dr Omkar Katiyar pointed out that her name existed till the last year. Her name stands deleted now.

Her nomination papers were not accepted due to this reason. She failed to initiate her name registered  on time. Applications for becoming an voter were entertained only upto April 2,this year.

Rejected, dejected and crest-fallen she made it clear that she decided to contest election for the very poor people. "Despite being illiterate I experience the poor's feelings and emotions very well. When I endeavoured guts to fight the election, there were phone calls to thawrt me", stated the poor lady.

What a situation for her! She can neither contest election nor vote for a candidate in the election. She thus lost opportunity and right to vote.
