Two held on charges of rape in Kathua dist

Jammu, Aug 13 (PTI) Two persons have been arrested for allegedly raping a girl in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

On August 9, three men from Salalpur Marheen village raped a girl in Chabe Chak area of Rajbagh. The survivor's family registered a police complaint.

The police arrested two of the accused yesterday and a search is going on for the third suspect, said an official from Rajbagh police station.

5 states sign pact for shared use of Caspian Sea

MOSCOW, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan signed an agreement Sunday for collective use of the Caspian sea after two decades of negotiations, the Kremlin said.

The presidents of the five states inked the landmark convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea at the Fifth Caspian Summit in the Kazakh city of Aktau.

Death toll from quake that hit Indonesian island passes 430

Jakarta, Aug 13 (AP) The death toll from the earthquake that rocked the Indonesian island of Lombok a week ago has passed 400 and the government is estimating economic losses of at least several hundred million dollars.

The national disaster agency said Monday the August 5 quake killed 436 people, most of whom died in collapsing buildings.

JNU student leader Umar Khalid attacked in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) JNU student leader Umar Khalid was allegedly shot at by a man just at the Constitution Club here today, but he escaped unhurt, police said.

Khalid was at the venue to attend an event titled 'Khauff Se Azaadi', organised by an organisation named 'United Against Hate'.

Later Khalid said, "There is an atmosphere of fear in the country, and anybody who speaks against the government is threatened.

Russia’s team tops medal standings of 2018 European Championships

Russia has won 31 gold, 19 silver and 16 bronze medals to be awarded the European Championships Trophy, a 650mm tall and 400mm wide cup on a 22-carat gold footing.

Anti white supremacist protesters crowd downtown Washington ahead of far right rally

Rahul dares Modi for debate on Rafale

Bidar (Karnataka), Aug 13 (PTI) Congress President Rahul Gandhi today challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a debate on the Rafale aircraft deal issue.

The Congress has raised several questions on the Rafale deal, accusing the government of compromising with national interests.

"...let a debate happen between me and Narendra Modi on Rafael deal... I will speak at length for hours," Gandhi said at "Jana Dwani" (people's voice) rally organised by the state Congress here in north Karnataka.

S. Korea, DPRK agree to hold summit in Pyongyang in September

SEOUL, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) agreed Monday to hold a third summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang in September.

The agreement was reached after the senior-level talks between the two sides at Tongilgak, a DPRK building in the border village of Panmunjom.

The joint statement, issued after the talks, said the two Koreas agreed to hold the Moon-Kim summit in Pyongyang before the end of September.
