Delhi CM expresses fear BJP might stall CCTV camera project

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today expressed the fear that the BJP might stall their ambitious project to install CCTV cameras in the city, a day after the Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal for the scheme.

As per the plan, the Delhi government will install around 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras across the national capital.

Govt will not allow slaughterhouses in Uttarakhand: CM

Dehradun, Aug 11 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said today his government will not allow opening of abattoirs in the state and will cancel licences for those issued by the previous regime.

Reiterating his government's commitment to cow conservation, Rawat said Uttarakhand is the first state where special police squads have been raised in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts to stop cow slaughter and cow trafficking.

When rapes, sexual abuse of women at shelter homes will stop, asks SC

New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court today expressed serious concern over recent cases of rape and sexual abuse of women at shelter homes in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and asked when these horrific incidents would stop.

The apex court's observation came while hearing a matter relating to sexual abuse of children at orphanages.

10 Aug 2018; AFP: US President Donald Trump said Friday he had doubled steel and aluminum tariffs on Turkey, adding to pressure on that nation's troubled economy amid a diplomatic row with Washington.

"I have just authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar!" Trump said on Twitter.

"Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!"

'Suicidal' mechanic steals plane from Seattle airport

Seattle (US), Aug 11 (AP) A "suicidal" airline mechanic stole an empty Alaska Airlines plane and took off from Sea-Tac International Airport in Washington state before crashing near a small island, officials said.

Preliminary information suggests that the 29-year-old mechanic stole the Horizon Air Q400 and the crash occurred because the person was "doing stunts in air or lack of flying skills," the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said.

11 Aug 2018; AFP: Politicians and public servants have been linked to the murder of high-profile Brazilian lawmaker and black rights activist Marielle Franco, Brazil's security minister Raul Jungmann said late Friday.

Jungmann, who said the murder may be politically motivated, would not reveal any names at this time because doing so could "hinder progress in the investigation."

Nevertheless "I do not have the slightest doubt that there is nothing that prevents us denouncing them, all of them," Jungmann told reporters.

Belarus-China visa-free agreement comes into force

MINSK, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The intergovernmental agreement on visa-free travel between Belarus and China came into force on Friday.

From now on, Belarusians can stay in China without a visa for up to 30 days in one trip, but not more than 90 days a year. The same rule applies to Chinese citizens.

If a person wants to stay in the country for more than 30 days or engage in educational and professional activities, he or she needs a special visa. Visa-free travel covers private trips, business trips and tourist trips.
