Man arrested for raping and killing 5-yr-old girl

Ghaziabad, Aug 7 (PTI) The police have arrested a man who allegedly raped and killed a five-year-old girl last week here, an official said.

The girl's body was found stuffed in a bag on the roof of a house in a locality here, police said.

The incident took place on August 2.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said the girl was missing since Thursday and her father had lodged a missing report at the Khoda police station.

BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's former Vice President Amado Boudou was sentenced on Tuesday to five years and 10 months in prison for "bribery and business dealings incompatible with public service."

Boudou, who served from 2011 to 2015 alongside then President Cristina Fernandez, was also barred for life from holding public office and fined 90,000 pesos (3,214 U.S. dollars).

Shelter home abuse: UP minister admits laxity by Deoria admin

Lucknow, Aug 7; PTI: Uttar Pradesh minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi today admitted laxity by Deoria administration in shutting down the shelter home from where 24 girls were rescued, saying the district officials were aware about the closure order but allowed the facility to operate for more than a year.

The admission of laxity by the state women and child welfare minister came a day after Union minister Maneka Gandhi said she feared that there could be more cases of sexual abuse of minor girls at shelter homes.

Russia vows to save Iran nuclear deal

MOSCOW, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Russia said Tuesday it would do everything to preserve and fully implement the Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which is under threat by U.S. unilateral sanctions.

"The introduction of the first batch of U.S. restrictions is aimed at disrupting the implementation of the JCPOA, which Washington unilaterally abandoned on May 8," a Russian Foreign Ministry statement said.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order to restore sanctions against Iran.

SC to hear on Aug 13 plea on Hapur mob lynching

New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court today agreed to hear on August 13 the plea of a survivor of the Hapur lynching case, seeking a court-monitored SIT probe into the incident in which one person was killed allegedly on suspicion of being involved in cow slaughter.

The plea also sought cancellation of bail of the accused and transfer of case outside Uttar Pradesh.

Dhaka, Aug 7; PTI:  Journalists in Bangladesh today gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the government to arrest those involved in attacks on some of their colleagues while covering the unprecedented protests by the students over road safety, according to media reports.

At least seven photojournalists, including an Associated Press (AP) photographer, were injured in attacks with sharp weapons, sticks and iron rods by youths wearing helmets at Dhanmondi, Jigatala and Science Laboratory areas on Sunday, while covering the protests.

Iran adopts new policy to protect local currency value

TEHRAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Central Bank (CBI) on Monday unveiled a new policy to protect value of rial against foreign currency.

The policy includes the lift of ban on currency trade and the activity of official money exchange markets ordered by new governor of the CBI Abdolnasser Hemati, Tasnim news agency reported.

Hemati said the policy, endorsed by President Hassan Rouhani's administration, aims to control the currency market and allow economic activists to interact freely.

Japan logs 11 bln USD current account surplus in June

TOKYO, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Japan logged a current account surplus of 1.18 trillion yen (11 billion U.S. dollars) in June, the Finance Ministry said in a report on Wednesday.

The latest reading marks the 48th successive month the current account has been in surplus.

The ministry also said in its preliminary report that the country had a goods trade surplus of 821 billion yen (7.3 billion U.S. dollars), while services trade stood at a deficit of 175 billion yen (1.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the reporting period.
