China to livestream first space class from Tiangong space station

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China will livestream to the world the first space class from its space station Tiangong in the upcoming days, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced Thursday.

A space science education brand "Tiangong Class," the first of its kind, will be launched, according to the CMSA.

In the "Tiangong Class," Chinese astronauts will become the "teachers in space" and interact with students, especially teenagers.

China-Laos railway to begin operations on Friday

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The China-Laos Railway, a landmark project connecting Kunming in southwest China's Yunnan Province with the Laotian capital, Vientiane, will begin operations on Friday, the China State Railway Group said on Thursday.

The 1,035-kilometer-long railway is a docking project between the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Laos' strategy to convert itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub.

China clears Boeing 737 Max to fly again

BEIJING (AP) — China’s aviation regulator cleared the Boeing 737 Max on Thursday to return to flying with technical upgrades more than two years after the plane was grounded worldwide following two fatal crashes.

China is the last major market where the Boeing 737 Max was awaiting approval after the United States allowed flights to resume in December 2020 and European Union regulators gave permission in January. Brazil and Canada also have given approval.

China firmly opposes Abe's remarks on Taiwan

BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's recent remarks on Taiwan.

"Abe, in disregard of the basic norms governing international relations and the principles set out in the four political documents between China and Japan, flagrantly made irresponsible remarks on Taiwan and stirred in China's internal affairs," spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a daily press briefing.

China sticks to its strategy in COVID-19 response: official

BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- A health official has emphasized the importance of committing to the current strategy in China to clear COVID-19 infections in a timely manner as highly contagious variants of the virus continue to rage around the world.

Since mid-October, the latest COVID-19 resurgence in China has spread to more than 20 provincial-level regions. Most regions managed to contain the outbreak within an incubation period of about 14 days, said Ma Xiaowei, head of the National Health Commission, in a recent interview with Xinhua.

Chinese premier urges strengthening prevention, treatment of HIV/AIDS

BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has urged unremitting efforts to improve prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS ahead of the 34th World AIDS Day, which falls on Wednesday.

Noting the progress achieved in the country's work to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed putting life first and improving the systematic planning of relevant work.

China to donate 600 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Africa

BEIJING (AP) — China has pledged to donate 600 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccines to Africa as the world grapples with the unequal distribution of the shots between rich and poor countries.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made the promise Monday in a video speech to the opening ceremony of a China-Africa forum on economic cooperation.

He said China will supply 1 billion doses in all. The other 400 million are to come through other routes such as production by Chinese companies in Africa.

China manufacturing improves as power shortages ease

BEIJING (AP) — China’s manufacturing activity rebounded in November as orders improved and power shortages eased, a survey showed Tuesday.

An industry group and the national statistics agency said a monthly purchasing managers’ index rose to 50.1 from October’s 49.2 on a 100-point scale. The index spent the previous two months below 50, which shows activity decreasing.

A measure of production rose 3.6 points to 52, indicating activity was recovering from power rationing imposed in major manufacturing areas in September to meet official energy efficiency targets.

Pakistan, China signs MoU to deepen tourism cooperation, exchanges

BEIJING, Nov 29 (APP): Pakistan and China on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on expansion of bilateral tourism, exchanges and cooperation.

Pakistan Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque and Chinese Vice-Minister of Culture and Tourism Zhang Xu signed the MoU from both sides at an august signing ceremony held at the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Beijing.

The event was also attended by senior officials from the two countries and media representatives.
