HONG KONG, Nov 29 (Reuters) - A closely monitored national security trial involving 47 Hong Kong democracy campaigners charged with conspiracy to commit subversion, most of whom have been in custody since March, has been adjourned till March next year, a judge ruled on Monday.

Magistrate Peter Law adjourned the next hearing till March 4, after making directions for the translation of nearly 10,000 pages of documentary evidence by year end. Hong Kong laws bar media from publishing most details of pre-trial proceedings.

BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Omicron, a new COVID-19 variant, has been detected in a growing number of countries and regions worldwide, prompting governments to tighten their restrictions and impose new travel bans.

While the variant has sparked concerns among the public, the World Health Organization (WHO) said it is not yet clear whether Omicron is more transmissible, or causes more severe disease compared to other variants.

BEIJING, Nov 28 (APP): The online opening ceremony of Sino-Pakistan Silk Road Institute of Electric Power was held simultaneously on Wednesday at Zhengzhou Electric Power College (ZEPC), China and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Pakistan.

HOHHOT, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The border city of Manzhouli, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, reported 19 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, local authorities said.

Among them, two were registered as asymptomatic cases previously. The city also reported an asymptomatic case during the period, officials with the municipal government told a press conference.

Manzhouli launched city-wide nucleic acid testing at 8 a.m. Sunday and aims to complete it by 8 a.m. Monday.

BEIJING (AP) — Macao police on Saturday detained the head of Macao’s biggest casino junket organizer and others after Chinese authorities issued an arrest warrant for them over accusations that they ran an illegal cross-border gambling syndicate.

The arrests in the gambling enclave came after prosecutors in Wenzhou, in the eastern province of Zhejiang, on Friday accused Suncity Group CEO Alvin Chau and another person, Zhang Ningning, of leading cross-border gambling operations and setting up casinos across China.

BEIJING, Nov 26 (Reuters) - The border port of Wanding in China's Yunnan province resumed trade with neighbouring Myanmar on Friday after being closed for 136 days due to the pandemic, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Measures have been taken to reduce human-to-human contact and crowd-gathering as trade resumes, to stop the potential spread of the coronavirus, CCTV said.

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A foreign ministry spokesperson on Friday urged the United States to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiqués, immediately stop all forms of official interaction with Taiwan.

The visit to Taiwan by certain U.S. lawmakers gravely violates the one-China principle and stipulations of the three China-US Joint Communiqués and sends a seriously wrong signal of supporting the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a daily press briefing.
