More Chinese agricultural technologies to flow into Pakistan: Zhao Lijian

BEIJING, Oct 18 (APP): Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Zhao Lijian Monday said that as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) entered the second phase, there will be more Chinese agricultural technologies flowing into Pakistan.

“China-Pakistan cooperation in cultivating rice, corn, soybean, sugarcane and other crops has yielded fruitful results and play the important role in promoting development of our bilateral relations and deepening friendship between our people,” he said while responding to a question asked by APP during his regular briefing.

Chinese FM urges U.S. to adopt rational, practical China policies

BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Monday urged the United States to forego its Cold War mentality and zero-sum mindset, view China and China's development from an objective perspective, form a deep understanding of the mutually beneficial nature of China-U.S. relations, and adopt rational and practical China policies.

Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at a press briefing when asked to comment on recent remarks on U.S.-China relations by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.

China’s economic growth weakens amid construction slowdown

BEIJING (AP) — China’s economic growth sank in the latest quarter as a slowdown in construction and curbs on energy use weighed on its recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

The world’s second-largest economy grew by 4.9% over a year ago in the three months ending in September, down from the previous quarter’s 7.9%, government data showed Monday.

Factory production, retail sales and investment in construction and other fixed assets all weakened.

China condemns U.S., Canada for sending warships through Taiwan Strait

BEIJING/TAIPEI, Oct 17 (Reuters) - The Chinese military on Sunday condemned the United States and Canada for each sending a warship through the Taiwan Strait last week, saying they were threatening peace and stability in the region.

China claims democratically-ruled Taiwan as its own territory, and has mounted repeated air force missions into Taiwan's air defence identification zone (ADIZ) over the past year, provoking anger in Taipei.

China: Members of seventh Legislative Assembly of Macao SAR sworn in

MACAO, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- All members of the seventh Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) were sworn in on Saturday and Kou Hoi In was re-elected as its president.

Ho Iat Seng, chief executive of the Macao SAR, administered the swearing-in ceremony. The legislators swore to uphold and implement the Basic Law of the Macao SAR as well as allegiance to the Macao SAR so as to serve the SAR wholeheartedly.
