China: CPEC power project in Sindh province making steady progress

BEIJING, Oct 10 (APP): The 330 MW Thar Energy Limited (TEL) Power Project in Thar Block-II being completed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Sindh province was making steady progress, said a senior Chinese official.

The TEL power plant was a 330MW mine-mouth lignite-fired power project being built by Thar Energy, which was owned by Hub Power Company (Hubco), China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), and Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC).

China urges U.S. to clarify nuclear submarine incident

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. should clarify an incident involving a U.S. nuclear submarine, including the exact location of the incident, the intention of the U.S. navigation, details of the incident, what the submarine collided with, whether it caused nuclear leakage, and whether it damaged the local marine environment, said a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson.

China, US officials hold meeting on fraught trade issues

BEIJING (AP) — China and the U.S. held a virtual meeting on Saturday regarding the two countries’ fraught trade relationship, after a lengthy break in negotiations.

China’s top trade negotiator Liu He called U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to discuss the “Phase 1” trade deal, negotiated under the Trump administration, along with other major economic concerns, according to a statement from China’s Commerce Ministry.

Both sides “conducted pragmatic, candid and constructive exchanges” according to the statement.

China: Xi says Taiwan Question' will be resolved, brooks no external interference'

Beijing, Oct 9 (PTI) Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday made a strong pitch for the reunification of Taiwan with the mainland amidst heightened tensions with the estranged island, saying the Taiwan question will be resolved and it brooks no external interference .

Xi's comments came after China sent a record number of military jets into Taiwan's air defence zone for four days in a row, in a public show of force.

China invited to attend talks on Afghanistan in Moscow: Zhao Lijian

BEIJING, Oct 8 (APP): Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Zhao Lijian Friday said that the Chinese side had received an invitation from the Russia to attend international talks on Afghanistan to be held in Moscow on October 20.

“The Chinese side has received Russia’s invitation. We stand ready to maintain communication and coordination with relevant sides including Russia,” he said during his regular briefing held here.

He said that China supported all international efforts that were conducive to promoting peace and stability and gathering consensus in Afghanistan.

US must publish details of nuclear submarine incident — Chinese Foreign Ministry

US electronics firm struck deal to transport and hire Uyghur workers

QINZHOU, China, Oct 7 (Reuters) - U.S. remote-control maker Universal Electronics Inc (UEIC.O) told Reuters it struck a deal with authorities in Xinjiang to transport hundreds of Uyghur workers to its plant in the southern Chinese city of Qinzhou, the first confirmed instance of an American company participating in a transfer program described by some rights groups as forced labor.

China sees 515 million domestic tourist trips during holiday

BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China saw a total of 515 million domestic tourist trips made during the seven-day National Day holiday, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The figure was 70.1 percent of trips made during the same period before the COVID-19 epidemic, said the ministry.

Tourism revenue reached 389.06 billion yuan (about 60.38 billion U.S. dollars), a recovery of 59.9 percent of the revenue gained in the same period before the epidemic, the ministry said.
