China ready to deepen cooperation with Japan's new ruling team: spokesperson

BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to work with Japan's new ruling team to observe the principles set out in the four political documents between China and Japan, deepen mutually beneficial and practical cooperation, and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations along the right track, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Wednesday.

Hua Chunying made the remarks at a daily news briefing in response to a query on Fumio Kishida's victory in the election to become president of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Wednesday.

China urges U.S. to stop suppressing other countries in the name of democracy

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China urges the United States to stop using democracy as a tool to suppress other countries, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.

Spokesperson Hua Chunying told a press briefing when asked to comment on the remarks made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the global summit for democracy proposed by the United States.

Hua said the so-called "democracy summit" put together by the United States is, in essence, drawing ideological lines and engaging in bloc politics.

China’s factories, households grapple with power cuts

BEIJING (AP) — Global shoppers face possible shortages of smartphones and other goods ahead of Christmas after power cuts to meet government energy use targets forced Chinese factories to shut down and left some households in the dark.

In the northeastern city of Liaoyang, 23 people were hospitalized with gas poisoning after ventilation in a metal casting factory was shut off following a power outage, according to state broadcaster CCTV. No deaths were reported.

New Chinese vaccine proves 67 pct effective against COVID-19, 79 pct against Delta variant in clinical trial: report

BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A new COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Clover Biopharmaceuticals has proven to be 67 percent effective against COVID-19, and 79 percent against the Delta variant in a mass clinical trial, Reuters reported recently.

The vaccine "was 67 percent effective against COVID-19 of any degree of severity and 79 percent against the highly infectious Delta variant in a large trial," the international news organization said in a report published Wednesday, citing Clover's statement.
