India: 1000 arms holders get concession to keep licensed arms

Kanpur: Formed under the president ship of the District Magistrate on the directives of the Election Commission, the Screening Panel has allowed only those persons to keep the licensed arms who face threat to their lives all the time. 

According to the reports more than l000 people were permited to carry their arms during the election time. An arms holder secures a certificate of license after getting concession for keepung the arms. They will not have to deposit their arms during the polls. 

India: Woman raped by two youths in front of mother

Muzaffarnagar, April 15 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two youths in front of her mother in a sugarcane field in Kakrauli area of the district, police said.

The incident happened Sunday when the victim along with her mother had gone to buy medicines in Kakroli police station area here.

A case has been registered against the two accused, including Dilshad, and an unidentified person who were absconding, Station House Officer (SHO Jitender Kumar said, adding the victim has been sent for medical examination.

Indian polls: SBSP to go alone in UP

Ballia (UP), Apr 15 (PTI) The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), an ally of the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh, on Monday said it will go alone in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls in the state.

"The SBSP will contest the Lok Sabha election on its own. It will field candidates from 25 seats (in Uttar Pradesh) and their names will be announced soon," party chief and state minister Om Prakash Rajbhar told reporters at his residence here.

The SBSP had won four seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

India: BJP has deviated from path of truth: Priyanka

Agra, Apr 15 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Monday alleged that the BJP had deviated from the path of truth and it seemed that the saffron party neither has faith in democracy nor in the people.

The Congress secretary general in-charge for Uttar Pradesh (East) also said the BJP instead of speaking about India and what it had done for its youth was talking about Pakistan.

"It seems that the government has faith neither in democracy, its institutions nor the people..had they been real nationalists they would have tread the path of truth.

India: Kanpur metro project halted due to elections

Kanpur: Despite clearance of 11140 crore budget for metro project in the city by the Central government, the furtherance in the work was halted owing to the elections. The tender for priority section could not be initiated.

The officials related with the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation pointed out work tender on route from IIT via Kalyanpur railway station, SPM hospital, CSJMU, Gurudev Crossing, Hallet Hospital to Moti Jheel and nine other routes would be invited after the polls. 

India: Applied for but did not receive Voter's I-card, say applicants

Kanpur: Those applicants who filled up the Form-6 are now bemoaning at their bad luck. They did not find the Voter's identity card yet. The elections are not too far away and complaints and contacts were of no value. The electoral list is printed already. 

Those first timer voter who received their card are feeling great. One girl who applied first time got the coloured identity card told the girl in her neighbour about her ID. This led the girl to apply online despite the date was over. 

India: Woman set on fire after she foils youth's rape bid

Gorakhpur (UP), Apr 13 (PTI) A 33-year-old woman was set on fire after she foiled an alleged rape bid by a youth in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district on Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred in a village in Bhatni area when the woman had gone out to attend nature's call, the police said.

The accused, Tarzon, who belongs to the same village, allegedly tried to rape her, but the woman foiled his attempts. The youth then poured petrol and set her on fire before fleeing, the police said.

India: Number of flying squad teams increased

Kanpur: As many as 30 static and 30 video surveillance team were active in the district. They would keep vigil on the contestants fighting the elections. Their meetings and expenses will be closely watched by the teams that will directly report to the district election officer. Strict action will be initiated on violation of code of conduct. 

Detailing about their responsibility the deputy district election officer K Singh told that they will be equipped with the GPS all the time. She 

India: Woman sets self on fire over dowry dispute, dies

Gorakhpur (UP), Apr 12 (PTI) A woman, allegedly fed up with dowry demands from her husband and in-laws, set herself on fire in Rajghat area here, police said Friday.

The woman's family, however, alleged her in-laws burnt her to death.

The woman in her 20s, Poonam Gupta, a resident of Laldiggi locality, was seen running in the street on Tuesday with her clothes set on fire. She was recorded in CCTV cameras in the area and the video later surfaced on social media.

Indian Polls: Vote for me or face divine displeasure: Sakshi Maharaj

Unnao (UP), Apr 12 (PTI) BJP Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj Friday told people that if they do not vote for him, they will face divine displeasure, prompting the police to lodge an FIR against the priest-turned-politician.

"If you ensure my victory, I will work for you, otherwise do 'bhajan-kirtan' in temple," he said at an election meeting at Sheshpur village in Sihramau area.

"I am a 'sanyasi'. When a 'sanyasi' comes to your door and asks for 'bhiksha' (alms), and is not heard, he takes away all the happiness of the family and transfers his sins onto them," he added.
