Indian Polls: Rahul Gandhi files nomination for Amethi

Amethi (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) With UPA president Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra by his side, Congress president Rahul Gandhi Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat at the Collectorate here.

Rahul was also accompanied by Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra and their two children to send a message that the entire family gives much importance to the Congress bastion, party leaders said.

India: Neither file nomination nor vote for, rues Belapati

KANPUR: Flaying the system for her failure in filing nomination for a parliamentry seat here, an aged woman expressed her deep ire at the mismanagement. She could not file her nomination papers because her name was omitted from the Voter's list this year. 

Known as Belapati Pasi, a stone cutter, often seen sitting under Babupurwa bridge she decided to contest election for the poor's cause. 

India: Allahabad HC restores Azam Khan's arms licence

Allahabad, Apr 8 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court Monday restored the arms licence of former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister Azam Khan, partially setting aside an order by the Rampur district magistrate, suspending the licence.

A bench of Justice Siddhartha, however, endorsed the other part of district magistrate's March 23 order which had also asked Khan to explain as to why his arms licence should not be cancelled permanently.

India: High capacity fuse sets to save power cuts

Kanpur: In order to improve power supply, the KESCo has been installing 500 ampere capacity LT fuse sets. It is essentially for maintaining the uninterrupted electricity supply in the city areas. As many as 600 sets are to be fitted. Old sets with 300 ampere capacity will be changed forthwith. 

CSB Ambedkar, department officer, said fuse installation was underway. As the power demand surges in the summer, the consumers will not face power cut after installation of the strong fuse sets. 

India: Computerized water system to help rly passengers

Kanpur: CNB will soon have a computer operated quick watering system to fill up the water tank in the train coaches. As many as 66 railway stations of the North Central Zone will be covered under this project underway with a cost of rupees 23 billion after the approval of the Railways Board. 

A water tank with a capacity of 1800 litres will be filled within five minutes. At present only 50 litres of water is filled in one minute. 

India: BJP should not lie during holy Navaratri: Akhilesh

Deoband, Apr 7 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Sunday said the grand alliance of opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh will ensure the removal of all 'chowkidars' and the country will get a new prime minister after the Lok Sabha polls.

Taking a swipe at the ruling BJP, Akhilesh said during the holy period of Navaratri no one should lie.

Indian Polls: Priyanka met party workers in Kanpur

KANPUR: She came; she talked and left for Fatehpur. But her brief stay amidst the party men inspired a new spirit among them. She did not appear tired in addressing separate meeting for both the parliamentary seats. When there was request for one single public meeting she even suggested them to organize separate meetings for both the seats between Apr 22 and 26. She did neither let them down for face to face talk nor accepting their request for public meeting.    

India: Adityanath does not know anything: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Apr 5 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday mocked Yogi Adityanath for his "Muslim League is a virus" remark, wondering whether the Uttar Pradesh chief minister has been affected by one and said the firebrand Hindutva leader "does not know anything".

"He talks of virus. He doesn't know anything. He only knows how to betray people," Yadav told reporters when asked about the remark.

Indian Polls: 'Either attend poll duty or face suspension'

Kanpur: Inspecting the new building of the ARO at the Collectorate here on Friday, the District Magistrate V V Pant learnt of the employees absent during training for the election duty. He found three employees absent on the occasion. He directed their one-day salary cut. mi vy He made it clear that employees must be present at 10 am and put their signature in the attendance register. 

Making his stand sterner he stated if the employees remained absent for three days their suspension order will be issued. The ACMs were also present on the occasion.
