India: Kesco plans to ease people's power woes

Kanpur: KESCo plans to establish new electricity lines to link as many as 12 power sub-stations from the sum of Rs 50 crore sanctioned under business plan.

Adjacent to Jhadi Baba Pandav Tiraha, the electricity supply company has been erecting 220KV transmission station in Phoolbagh. 

For the financial year 2019-20 Kesco has received amount of Rs 50 cr under its business plan head which it intends to spend on installing separate electricity lines for the sub-stations so that two or more sub-stations could not face power supply crisis at a time.

India: IIT holds run against sexual harassment

Kanpur: IIT-Kanpur Women Cell organised Walk Against Sexual Harassment on the campus here on Sunday. 

The students and the staff members joined the walk & run programme based on the theme, "Do not be bystander, Stand against Sexual Harassment."

The walk covered the campus area stretching over 5.5 KMS and attended by above 450 students and staff members. 

Lauding the students, efforts in organising this social awareness programme within the campus circle, the institution's deputy director Prof M Agarwal honoured them  with his good wishes.

India: Villagers protest at lineman's electrocution

Kanpur: Villagers protested on the Lineman's death in Bitthoor here on Sunday. They raised their voice against the laxity observed in disconnecting power supply at the time of fuse binding. The power supply was not shutdown as was alleged. The lineman was asked to climb the electricity pole. This caused his electrocution. Police pacified the agigated villagers and sent the body for the post-mortem. 

India: CSJM fee hike opposed by Self-finance college body

KANPUR: The Self-finance college association has waged war against the fee hike at Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University. The office-bearers registered their strong protest condemning the move vehemently on Saturday. 

Putting their points before the university registrar Vinod Kumar they said it was good if the university administration should have listened to them. 

Indian Polls: A sour note across UP's sugarcane belt

Baghpat/Kairana (UP), Mar 31 (PTI) Tractors loaded with cane waiting to be crushed line the roads across swathes of western Uttar Pradesh, telling the bitter story of sugarcane farmers caught in a pincer trap of unpaid dues and low prices.

With posters, buntings and rallies, the clamour of poll-time campaigning is all around in the area famed as the country's sugar bowl but the very word election strikes a sour note for many farmers.

India: DM instructs officials for facilities at polling booths

Kanpur: Inspecting the polling booths set up in the city areas on Friday, the district election officer  VV Pant & chief development officer Akshay Tripathi looked irritated at improper arrangements.

The District Magistrate was annoyed at two booths in one small room at primary school in Parmat. Giving stern order for making correction, he told the staff responsible to not to erect two booths in a small space. He made it clear two polling booths could be set up in a spacious hall with partition. 

HBTU ready to sign MoU with foreign universities

Kanpur: It is after a decade the Harcourt Butler Technology University in line with IIT-Kanpur gets ready to colloborate with foreign Asian universities. 

It was being assumed that the University administration will enter into MoU with other foreign universities. 

It has been learnt that the HBTU has approached Japan, Singapore, New Zealand and Australian universities under the education exchange programme plan. 

Indian Polls: Nishad Party quits 'Mahagathbandhan' in UP

Gorakhpur/Lucknow, Mar 29 (PTI) In a jolt to the SP-BSP-RLD 'Mahagathbandhan' in Uttar Pradesh, the Nishad Party Friday parted ways with the fledgling anti-BJP alliance and said it could "look for other options".

"The Nishad Party is no more in alliance with the Samajwadi Party," Nikky Nishad alias Riteash Nishad, media in-charge, Nishad Party, told PTI in Gorakhpur.

"There was conflict between the two parties on Maharajganj seat as Nishad Party wanted to contest with its own party symbol where as Samajwadi Party was not ready for it," he added.

India: Woman burnt alive over dowry demand

Muzaffarnagar, Mar 30 (PTI) A woman was allegedly burnt alive by her in-laws in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place in Haibatpur village under Charthawal police station on Friday, they said.

The woman was identified as Sonia, who was married to Arvind Kumar, they said.

India: New transmission station to ease city south power woes

Kanpur: Proposed primary transmission in Govind nagar will not only benefit City south residents but also Industrial area as well. There will be less breakdown and overloading faults as a result. 

According  to the Kesco officials, areas like Dabauli, Vidyut Colony, Govind Nagar, Parag Dairy, Gujaini, Juhi Param Purawa, Juhi Horseman Bagh, Dada nagar, UdyogKunj, Fazalganj and others will be connected with this transmission station.
