India: TB taking denizens under its grip day by day

Kanpur: City is not wholly safe from the disease of tuberculosis. This manifests from the number of patients increasing day by day. According to the DOTS centres, the number has reached to 8500. Besides, the TB patients admitted  at the private nursing homes touch the figure of 3500. There were as many as 423 Multi-drug-resistant TB and 30 Extensively drug-resistant infected patients. 

India: 109 Kg gold bricks worth 38 crore seized in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Mar 22 (PTI) A police team here seized 109 kg gold bricks worth Rs 38 crore and arrested four people on Friday, police said.

During a routine checking, a light commercial vehicle was intercepted near the Modinagar police station and the gold bricks were recovered, Deputy Inspector General of police Upendra Agarwal said.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the gold consignment was being transported to Haridwar from Delhi to process them into gold biscuits, he added.

India: State lawmaker injured by gunmen in northern India

NEW DELHI, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen shot and injured a lawmaker of main ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, local media reported on Thursday.

Yogesh Verma, a BJP member of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly who represents the Lakhimpur assembly constituency, was shot at while he was on his way back to his residence after celebrating the festival of colors "Holi" at his office in Patel Nagar area of the city.

India: Pulwama attack 'conspiracy' to fetch votes: SP leader

Etawah, Mar 21 (PTI) Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav Thursday alleged that the Pulwama terror attack was a "conspiracy" to garner votes, drawing sharp reaction from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Yadav, a general secretary in the Samajwadi Party (SP), also said once there is a change at the Centre, investigations will be conducted into the incident and claimed that prominent people will come under the scanner of the probe.

Indian Polls: BJP denies tickets to 6 sitting MPs in UP

Lucknow, Mar 21 (PTI) The BJP on Thursday denied tickets to its six sitting MPs from Uttar Pradesh, including Union minister Krishna Raj and National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairman Ram Shankar Katheria.

The BJP Thursday announced its first list of 184 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, fielding Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow.

Indian Polls: Mayawati not to contest LS polls

Lucknow, Mar 20 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati Wednesday announced that she will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, but kept open the option of fighting a parliamentary by-election later.

"In view of the present circumstances and the need of the country and the interests of the party, the movement and the public, it is the need of the hour that I do not contest the Lok Sabha polls. And this is the reason that I have decided not to contest the Lok Sabha polls," Mayawati said here.

Priyanka calls elections India's new freedom struggle

Varanasi/Mirzapur, Mar 20 (PTI) Wrapping up her three-day tour of Uttar Pradesh in Prime minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi constituency, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called the coming Lok Sabha elections a new freedom struggle .

In a blistering attack on Modi on the last day of the trip, by boat on the Ganga, she asked him not to treat people as fools.

In Varanasi, party workers from the Congress and the BJP confronted each other with slogans, with some of them scuffling with each other.

India: Green Park to have new facilities

KANPUR: City’s famous Green Park is going to be equipped with various new features in next to no time. Like the cricket match, the football matches will also be played under the milky lights which would help the fans enjoy the matches during the night. The Central UP Gas Limited, a joint venture between GAIL (India) and Bharat Petroleum has agreed to install such lights at the stadium.

Indian Polls: Cong leaves 7 UP seats for SP-BSP - Mayawati says don't spread confusion

Lucknow, Mar 18 (PTI) A day after the Congress said it was leaving seven Lok Sabha seats for the SP-BSP-RLD combine in Uttar Pradesh, BSP supremo Mayawati Monday asked the national party not to "spread confusion" and said the alliance was capable of defeating the BJP on its own.

At the same time, she dared the Congress to go ahead and field candidates in all the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

The parliamentary elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases.
