India: 5-yr-old girl raped by youth

Bahraich (UP), Feb 15 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in the Fakharpur area here, police said Friday.

The victim had come to attend a wedding in Fakharpur township. She was allegedly abducted by the youth when she was playing with other children Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover said.

India: SP chief Akhilesh Yadav 'stopped' at airport

Lucknow, Feb 12 (PTI) SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday claimed he was stopped by authorities at Lucknow airport in a bid to prevent him from visiting Allahabad, triggering outrage by party lawmakers in the state legislature and workers outside the airport.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said he was to fly to Allahabad from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport to attend an event at Allahabad University.

India: 'Shahi snan' account for over 50pc Kumbh pilgrims

Allahabad, Feb 12 (PTI) The three 'shahi snan' held during the ongoing Kumbh this year accounted for more than 50 per cent of the total pilgrims and visitors to the Sangam city, according to the Mela administration.

It said, so far over 16.44 crore people have taken a dip during the Kumbh, the largest congregation in the world.

Of these, more than 9 crore people have taken a dip on the three 'shahi snan' -- Makar Sankranti on January 15 (2.25 crore); Mauni Amawasya on February 4 (5.50 crore); and Basant Panchami on February 10 (1.50 crore), the administration said.

India: Priyanka roars into UP with roadshow to enthuse Cong workers

Lucknow, Feb 11; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Making her political debut as Congress general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi on Monday roared into Uttar Pradesh with thousands cheering as her cavalcade slowly made its way through the city during a roadshow, being seen as launch of the party's campaign in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Accompanied by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and incharge of the western region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the beaming 47-year-old sported a kurta and a stole, and waved at the teeming party workers jostling for a glimpse.
