India: Ayodhya gets Rs 300 cr in UP Budget

Lucknow, Feb 7 (PTI) Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Ayodhya Thursday got a significant share in the Uttar Pradesh Budget, including Rs 200 crore for an airport and Rs 101 crore for the development of tourist spots in the city.

As part of its focus on development and beautification of religious places in the state, the UP government has selected Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura and Allahabad while earmarking funds in the annual budget for 2019-20.

India: class 8 student abducted, raped in UP

Deoria (UP), Feb 6 (PTI) A class 8 student was allegedly abducted and raped by three youths in Deoria district, police said Wednesday.

The minor was abducted from her home on Monday night when she was sleeping with her siblings and later taken to a nearby agriculture field and raped by the youths, Superintendent of Police (SP) N Kolanchi said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the girl's mother, an FIR was registered against the three youths, the SP said, adding that two of the three accused were taken into custody.

India: UP govt constitutes SIT to probe 1984 Kanpur riots

Lucknow, Feb 5 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted an Special Investigation Team to probe the circumstances that led to riots in Kanpur in 1984 following the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi, an official release said Tuesday night.

The four-member SIT, to be headed by retired UP Director General of Police Atul, has been asked to submit its report within six months, the release said.

India: Mayawati joins Twitter to interact with media, people

Lucknow, Feb 6 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati has for the "first time" joined Twitter to interact with the media and masses, her party said Wednesday, almost a fortnight after a handle in her name appeared on the microblogging site.

She will be also expressing her views on national and matters of political importance on Twitter, a BSP release said.

India: Nine arrested for slaughtering cow in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 4 (PTI) Nine people have been booked in connection with cases of cow slaughter here, police said Monday.

The cases, they were involved in, are registered at the New Mandi police station, they said.

Circle Officer Yogender Kumar said the nine people were booked on Sunday under provisions of the Gangster Act and charged with involvement in cow slaughter.

India: 27-yr-old woman raped by youth on promise of marriage

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 3 (PTI) A 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a youth on the false promise of marriage, police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the woman on Saturday, case was registered against the youth, Nitin Kumar, under relevant sections of the IPC.

Efforts were underway to nab him, police added.

Kanpur University exams begin from Feb end

KANPUR: It was the first time in the history of Kanpur University that its undergraduate and post-graduate examinations are going to be held prior to the general elections. The examinations will begin in the month of February.

The university's exam schedule has already been announced. Starting from Feb 26 the exams will conclude on April 12. The examination dates: BA (1st yr), BA (2nd yr) BA (3rd yr) from Feb 26, B.Sc. from Mar 9 and B.Com from Mar 16. M.A. from Mar 27 and M.Com from Mar 30.
