China: Industrial transfer driving Pakistan’s modernization: Prof Cheng

BEIJING, March 6 (APP): After Prime Minister Imran Khan visited China, pleasant surprises about the pragmatic cooperation between China and Pakistan have been popping up with happy regularity.

Malaysia Sees Fresh High Of 33,406 Daily COVID-19 Cases, 67 New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 33,406 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, the highest daily spike since the outbreak, bringing the national total to 3,595,172, according to the health ministry.

There are 342 new imported cases and 33,064 local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed. A further 67 deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 33,173.

The ministry reported 27,143 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 3,250,793.

Chinese FM to meet press on foreign policy, relations

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet the press Monday afternoon on the sidelines of the fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress.

Wang is expected to take questions from journalists at home and abroad on China's foreign policy and foreign relations via video link in consideration of COVID-19 prevention and public health.

The event will be broadcast live by China Media Group, and xinhuanet.com will provide live broadcast in photos and text.

New US ambassador arrives in Beijing amid tense relations

BEIJING (AP) — New U.S. Ambassador Nicholas Burns has arrived to take up his post in Beijing amid heightened tensions between China and the United States over Taiwan, trade, human rights and the war in Ukraine.

Burns arrived Friday with his wife Libby and a group of other U.S. diplomats and their families and will undergo three weeks of quarantine at his official residence as China requires, according to a U.S. Embassy spokesperson.

During his quarantine, the ambassador will virtually meet with U.S. Mission staff, the spokesperson said.

North Korea confirms new tests on spy satellite

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea performed data transmission and other key tests needed to develop a spy satellite, state media said Sunday, in the second such tests in about a week, indicating the country intends to conduct a prohibited long-range rocket launch soon.

The moves come as North Korea has been carrying out a spate of ballistic missile launches - including one detected by its neighbors on Saturday - in what experts call an attempt to add new weapons systems to its arsenal and pressure the United States into making concessions amid stalled diplomacy.

Pakistan power project using China’s Hualong One connected to grid

BEIJING, March 5 (APP): The K-3 unit of the Karachi Nuclear Power Project in Pakistan, the fourth entity to use a China-designed third-generation nuclear reactor, was successfully connected to the grid, laying solid foundations for commercial operation.


All four of the units adopting China’s Hualong One nuclear reactor are now connected to the grid and are generating electricity, Global Times reported while quoting China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) statement.

There are 441 new imported cases, with 32,768 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

A further 78 deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 33,106.

The ministry reported 26,352 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 3,223,650.

Ukraine-Russia: Malaysia Strongly Urges All Parties To De-Escalate Hostilities

Indonesia reports 30,156 new COVID-19 cases, 322 more deaths

JAKARTA, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Saturday confirmed 30,156 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 5,723,858, the country's health ministry said.

According to the ministry, the death toll from COVID-19 in the country rose by 322 to 149,918, while 46,669 more people recovered from disease during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,073,522.
