India: 55-yr-old man 'rapes' class 6 girl

Kota (Raj), Apr 24 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father's friend in Rajasthan's Bundi district Wednesday, police said.

The girl, a student of class 6, was allegedly raped five days ago at an isolated place in Old Grain Mandi premises under Bundi city police station limits but approached police with her uncle only Wednesday, they said.

Amethi, Apr 24 (PTI) Hardik Patel Wednesday termed Congress the biggest nationalist party in the country and said several of its leaders have sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Addressing an election meeting here, Patel, who recently joined the Congress, also accused the BJP of trying to "derive mileage" out of the bravado of the country's armed forces, while his party is contesting the elections on issues of education, health and farmers.

Indian Polls: BJP contesting on 437 seats, highest ever in its history

New Delhi, Apr 24 (PTI) The BJP has fielded 437 candidates in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the highest number of seats the party has contested so far and perhaps for the first time more than its principal rival Congress.

The BJP had contested 427 seats in 2014 and won 282 of them, while the Congress had fielded candidates in 450 seats and bagged just 44.

India: Man gets 20-yr jail term for raping 3-yr-old

Kota, Apr 24 (PTI) A special court Wednesday sentenced a man to 20 years in jail here for raping a three-year-old girl after abducting her from home last September.

The special court, set up under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences [POCSO] Act also imposed a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh on convict Ajay Rai alias Taxi, 25.

Two Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir

Two Kashmiri separatists, including one pursuing Bachelor of Physiotherapy, were killed Thursday by Indian security forces in Anantnag district of Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir.

"On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched at Bagender Mohalla in Bijbehara area in district Anantnag by police and security forces," a police spokesman said.

The spokesman alleged that during searches, the separatists fired upon the search party which retaliated killing two Kashmiri separatists.

India: Two held in betting from Raipurwa

Kanpur: Two persons including a CSJMU student were arrested from Raipurwa police station on Tuesday late night. They were collecting money for betting in IPL matches. 

The police recovered a cash amount of Rs 14,000, mobile set and 12 receipts. Though the bookies remained successful in deleting the message and application used for this purpose. 

India: Pragya seeks dismissal of plea to bar her from contesting

Mumbai, Apr 23 (PTI) BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast, on Tuesday sought dismissal of the application seeking to bar her from contesting the Lok Sabha polls, even as the NIA distanced itself from the issue.

Thakur, through her lawyer, filed a reply before special judge for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases V S Padalkar, dubbing the application as "frivolous" and moved with a "political agenda".

India: SC directs Gujarat govt to give 50 lkh compen, job, accom to Bilkis Bano

New Delhi, Apr 23 (PTI) The Supreme Tuesday directed the Gujarat government to give Rs 50 lakh compensation, a job and accommodation to Bilkis Bano who was gang raped during the 2002 riots in the state.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Rajan Gogoi was informed by the Gujarat government that action has been taken against the erring police officials in the case.
