ISLAMABAD, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan said Sunday that Indian forces have committed over 3,000 ceasefire violations in the year of 2020, while summoning a senior Indian diplomat to register a strong protest over a recent ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir region.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that a 25-year-old civilian was seriously injured due to "indiscriminate and unprovoked firing" by the Indian forces in the Rakhchikri sector of the LoC on Saturday.
In 2020, the Indian forces have carried out 3,003 ceasefire violations to date, resulting in 27 deaths and serious injuries to 250 innocent civilians, according to the statement.
Pakistan and India declared a ceasefire along the LoC, the de facto border between both countries in the disputed Kashmir region and the working boundary in 2003. However, both sides routinely exchange fire and accuse each other of ceasefire violations.
Tension has been heightened after India lifted the special status for the Indian-controlled Kashmir in August 2019. Pakistan downgraded its diplomatic relations, suspended trade relations and train service with India in response.
The Pakistani military said on Friday evening that a cross border firing by the Indian forces hit a vehicle of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan observers and their vehicle near the LoC.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday accused India of completely violating international law by deliberately firing at LoC on the UN vehicle, despite clear UN markings and flying blue UN flag.
Pakistan on Sunday also urged the United Nations to initiate a transparent investigation into the UN vehicle hit incident.
