Russia’s Sputnik Light becomes first single-dose vaccine authorized in India

NEW DELHI, March 21./TASS/. India's Hetero pharmaceutical company reported on Monday that it had got the green light from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for the production and sales of the developed in Russia Sputnik Light vaccine for restricted emergency use in India. NDTV TV channel reports referring to the company management that Sputnik Light became the first single-dose vaccine authorized in India.

Medical data of Sputnik Light showed significantly high neutralizing antibody titers against the coronavirus infection. Sputnik Light also showed neutralizing activity against the Omicron variant of coronavirus, NDTV cited company’s Senior Vice-President Shubhadeep Sinha as saying.

The company based in Hyderabad manufactures various types of pharmaceuticals, including the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, while last year it began the production of the single-dose Sputnik Light.

Rajendra Kumar, a senior researcher at Hetero, told TASS earlier that the company saw the Sputnik Light vaccine as very promising, since the other currently used in India vaccines require two doses.
