BANGKOK, April 29. /TASS/: More than 2.29 million people have been affected by tropical storm Megi in the Philippines. A total of 214 people died, according to the updates report of the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), which was released on Friday.
According to NDRRMC, more than 69,700 displaced people are still staying at 200 evacuation centers. As many as 33,500 people were evacuated beforehand. A total of 132 people are reported missing.
Megi partially damaged 17,200 houses and destroyed 2,300 buildings, with damage being preliminarily estimated at 709,500 peso (13,500 US dollars). Damage to the agrarian sector is estimated at 2.2 billion peso (43.2 million US dollars) and damage to 45 infrastructure facilities stands at 6.95 million peso (133,200 US dollars). The storm damaged 309 roads and 16 bridges. Electricity outages were reported in 76 cities. By today, electricity supplies have been resumed in 12 cities. Three municipalities have problems with water supplies.
An emergencies situation was declared in 61 cities and municipalities. The country’s government has allocated 118.7 million peso (2.26 million US dollars) to clear the aftermaths of the storm.
Tropical storm Megi hit the islands of Samar, Leyte, and Biliran in the eastern part of the Philippines on April 10. The wind velocity was 20.8 meters per second, with gusts of up to 29.1 meter per second.
