MANAMA, Oct 13 (NNN-BNA) – Bahrain attracted 98 million U.S. dollars of direct investment, in its information and communications technology (ICT) sector, in the first nine months of this year, the Bahrain Economic Development Board said, yesterday.
“We are pleased to see more and more ICT companies calling Bahrain home, for their regional operations,” the kingdom’s investment promotional agency said in a statement, announcing the direct investment from 14 foreign companies.
The inf-tech sector is a major pillar of Bahrain’s economy, contributing 6.8 percent to its real gross domestic product, by the end of 2021, the statement said, citing statistics from the Finance and National Economy Ministry.
Overall, Bahrain garnered 9.21 billion dollars in direct investment from 66 companies, during the first nine months of this year, it noted.
The investment is expected to create more than 4,700 jobs in such key sectors as the ICT, financial services, logistics, manufacturing and tourism, over the next three years, it added.
