India: BJP leader booked in J&K for hurting religious sentiments

Jammu, Nov 2 (PTI) An FIR has been registered against a senior Jammu and Kashmir BJP leader for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a community, officials said on Tuesday.

The case was registered after a video, which surfaced online, purportedly showed Vikram Randhawa making the remarks, they said.

The party's Jammu and Kashmir unit has taken note of the video of former MLC Randhawa and served him a show cause notice on Monday, asking him to explain his position within 48 hours and submit a public apology.

India: Rationalist Narendra Dabholkar murder trial begins

Pune, Oct 29 (PTI) The trial of the rationalist Narendra Dabholkar murder case began here on Friday with the examination and cross-examination of a witness.

Avinash Davalbhakta (54), who lived in a building in Shaniwar Peth area at the time of Dabholkar's murder, testified before the court.

Dr Dabholkar, a renowned anti-superstition activist, used to stay in a flat of Sadhana Trust in the same building sometimes.

India: Ex-PM Manmohan Singh discharged from AIIMS

New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) Former prime minister Manmohan Singh who was undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here was discharged on Sunday, hospital sources said.

Singh was admitted to the hospital on October 13 after feeling weak following a fever.

The 89-year-old Congress leader was admitted in a private ward at the Cardio-Neuro Centre and was treated by a team of cardiologists led by Dr Nitish Naik.

Earlier this month, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya visited the hospital to meet him.

India: Zika cases advance to 10 in Kanpur district

Kanpur : As many as 10 Zika virus cases have been reported in Kanpur district so far, said Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nepal Singh, here on Sunday.

While speaking to reporters, Dr Singh confirmed that the total tally of Zika virus patients in the district has gone up to 10.

The tally, which was at four till Sunday afternoon, increased to 10 as six more tested positive for the virus.

"In the medical reports that came late on Sunday evening, six other people were confirmed to be Zika infected," Singh said.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises To 34,273,300 With 12,830 New Cases

NEW DELHI, Oct 31 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 34,273,300 today, as 12,830 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, the federal health ministry’s latest data showed.

Besides, 446 deaths due to the pandemic, since yesterday morning, took the total death toll to 458,186.

Most deaths, 358, were reported from the southern state of Kerala. “More than 70 percent of cases (deaths) are due to comorbidities,” said the federal health ministry.

India bans firecrackers in districts near capital before Diwali

NEW DELHI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in the northern Indian state of Haryana on Sunday banned the sale and use of firecrackers in 14 districts near the capital, New Delhi, days ahead of the festival of Diwali.

The local government cited rulings of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court in support of the move. It noted that setting off firecrackers can adversely affect the respiratory health of vulnerable groups, besides aggravating the health condition of COVID-19 positive people in home isolation.

India: Once teachers, students used to focus on study, they care little now

Kanpur: No children or young boy care of giving more time at the examinations, as they should need to care of.

They give less time to study and remain active in whiling away their precious time in play.

Taking the case of three respective boys who are studying in three different classes viz., 5th 8th, & 10th at a good school here, it can be discerned that their interest in the study is inconsequential.

They either do not open books or find out a good knowledge of dodging their parents.

India: Shah Rukh Khan fans cheer as Aryan returns home

Mumbai, Oct 30 (PTI) It was the homecoming of their "prince" Aryan Khan and superstar Shah Rukh Khan's fans made sure to make it special as they thronged in larger numbers outside the actor's bungalow here, celebrating with music, dance and firecrackers.

Aryan walked out of the Arthur Road prison after 22 days in the central Mumbai facility following his arrest during a drug raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast.
