iNDIA: 29 sacks of explosive gelatin stick seized in Jharkhand

Pakur (Jharkhand), Oct 23 (PTI) At least 29 sacks of gelatin stick were seized from a truck in Jharkhand's Pakur district on Saturday and the driver of the vehicle was arrested, police said.

The truck was intercepted near Nasipur checkpoint under the Malpahari police outpost limits, and the driver was apprehended after he failed to submit any valid document for carrying the explosive substance, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajit Kumar Vimal said.

The vehicle was coming from Rajgram of neighbouring West Bengal.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Zika virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes.

It was first identified in humans in Uganda and Tanzania in 1952.

Symptoms generally include mild fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, or headaches.

Most symptoms can last for two-seven days. The virus can also be transmitted through sexual intercourse.

The demonstration was led by NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh and coincided with the three-day visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to J-K.3.

India: 2 awarded life term for raping minor girl in Jharkhand

Ramgarh (Jharkhand), Oct 23 (PTI) A court in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district on Saturday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2019.

Radha Krishna, Additional District Judge-1, Ramgarh, awarded the punishment to the two men under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 80,000 on each of them, and in default of payment, they will undergo three years of additional imprisonment.

India: TN CM Stalin hops on to city bus, takes passengers by surprise

Chennai, Oct 23 (PTI) Passengers of a city bus on Saturday were in for a pleasant surprise when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin boarded the vehicle and briefly interacted with them.

The chief minister was on his way to a vaccination camp, held as part of the sixth mega Covid-19 inoculation drive across the state, at Kannagi Nagar here when he boarded the "M-19 b Kannagi Nagar-T Nagar" service, much to the delight of the passengers.

He mainly enquired with the women about the government's free bus travel scheme for them, an official said.

India: BSP MP Atul Rai booked under Gangster Act in UP

Varanasi, Oct 23 (PTI) Bahujan Samaj Party MP Atul Rai was on Saturday booked under the Gangster Act, according to police.

Police said Rai has several criminal cases registered against himself.

The case has been registered at the Lanka police station.

Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh said soon properties acquired by him from criminal activities will be confiscated.

India: Activist-poet Varavara Rao issued NBW by Sessions Court

Bengaluru, Oct 23 (PTI): A court in Madhugiri in Tumakuru district, Karnataka, has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against activist and revolutionary poet Varavara Rao. He is out on bail on medical grounds in a different case with a condition not to move out of Mumbai, his lawyer said.

"It's a case pertaining to an attack on policemen in Tumakuru in 2005 in which Varavara Rao and Gaddar (another activist-poet) are among the accused," advocate S Balan told PTI.

India: PM Modi's 100 cr (1 billion) vaccination doses claim 'false': Sanjay Raut

Mumbai, Oct 24 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has alleged that the claim of administration of 100 crore vaccine doses against COVID-19 in the country was "false" and not more than 23 crore (230 million) doses were given to eligible citizens so far.

Addressing a party meeting at Nashik in Maharashtra on Saturday, Raut said he would give proof that the 100 crore vaccination claim was "false".

"How much will you lie?" the Rajya Sabha member asked, without taking any names.

India: Mehbooba slams CDS Rawat's remarks on curbs in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 24 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday charged that repression was the Centre's only method to deal with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to the remarks by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat warning of further curbs in Kashmir to tackle the recent violence, Mehbooba also said his statement contradicts the official narrative that all is well in the valley.
