ISLAMABAD, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani military said on Thursday that security forces had killed eight terrorists and arrested five others in two separate operations in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan army, said in a statement that security forces conducted intelligence-based operations in Bannu district and North Waziristan district.
"During the first operation in Jani Khel area of Bannu, intense fire exchange took place between troops and terrorists," said the ISPR, adding that six terrorists were killed and five others were apprehended along with their facilitators.
According to the statement, the eliminated terrorists were involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces, including the facilitation of a suicide attack on a military convoy in the same area last month, which killed nine soldiers.
The forces held another operation in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, leading to the killing of two terrorists during a fierce encounter between personnel and terrorists and also recovered weapons and ammunition from the killed terrorists.
The military said clearance operations would continue in the surrounding areas to neutralize any other terrorists found, adding that "security forces of Pakistan remain determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism."
