ISLAMABAD, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- A policeman and a terrorist were killed in an attack on a polio-eradication team in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, police said.
The incident happened in the Khyber district of the province, where the terrorists targeted the team when it was on its way back after taking part in a door-to-door campaign to administer polio drops to kids, the district's police said in a statement.
In the retaliatory attack by police, the terrorist was killed while the others fled the scene, the statement said, adding that a search operation is underway in the area to apprehend the fleeing miscreants, the police said.
The polio team was safe while its mission to administer polio vaccines to kids will remain suspended till further notice, the statement added.
The area has been cordoned off by police for investigation.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
