RABAT, Jun 5 (NNN-MAP) – Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, met yesterday, with two visiting Libyan rivalling speakers, as “part of Morocco’s mediation efforts, to contribute to the settlement of the Libyan crisis,” said a ministry statement.
Aguila Saleh Issa, speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, and Khaled al-Michiri, president of the Libyan High Council of State, arrived in Morocco on Thursday. It wasn’t clear whether Saleh Issa and al-Michiri had held direct talks in Morocco.
The Libyan House of Representatives and the Libyan High Council of State, two rivalling parliaments in the North African country, differ on the appointment of high rank officials of national institutions, the mechanisms for unifying state institutions, and laws governing general elections scheduled for Dec 24.
UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, called the House of Representatives, to coordinate with the High Council of State, in adopting legislation for the Dec 24 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), selected a new executive authority of a unity government and a presidency council. The new executive authority’s main task is to prepare for the national elections as endorsed by the LPDF.
