ISLAMABAD (AP) — U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Friday that the world owes impoverished Pakistan “massive” help in recovering from the summer’s devastating floods because the country bears less blame than many other nations for climate change, which experts say contributed to the deluge.

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8 (Reuters) - A Pakistani court ruled on Thursday that it will indict former Prime Minister Imran Khan on charges of contempt of court, his lawyer and local broadcasters said, which could lead to his disqualification from politics if convicted.

The ruling has stoked more political instability in the South Asian nation of 220 million, which is facing the worst-ever flooding.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Taliban and the Abu Dhabi-based firm GAAC Solutions signed a contract Thursday for the Emirati company to provide flight services and manage planes landing and taking off on key airports in Afghanistan.

The flight guidance services deal will also include equipping the facilities and training Afghan staff at country’s three major airports, including the one in the capital of Kabul, the Taliban said.

ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (APP): Another flight from the United Arab Emirates carrying relief goods for the flood-stricken people of Pakistan arrived here at Nur Khan Airbase on Wednesday.

So far, 19 flights from the UAE have landed in Pakistan carrying food, medical supplies and tents etc. 

This is in continuation of the humanitarian air bridge established between Pakistan and the UAE.

“Pakistan is thankful to the Government and people of UAE for showing support and solidarity in these times of grave crisis,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tents donated by China for flood victims in Pakistan have been installed in the country's southwestern Balochistan province, a local official told Xinhua Tuesday night.

Some tents were installed a few days ago in Usta Mohammad area in Jaffarabad district of the province, said Faisal Naseem, director of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan.

He said the tents were mostly used by people displaced by floods, and also serving as medical camps and utilized by rescue workers for accommodation.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The U.N. refugee agency rushed in more desperately needed aid Monday to flood-stricken Pakistan as the nation’s prime minister traveled to the south where rising waters of Lake Manchar pose a new threat.

Two UNHCR planes touched down in the southern port city of Karachi and two more were expected later in the day. A third plane, with aid from Turkmenistan also landed in Karachi. While the floods in recent weeks have touched much of Pakistan, the southern Sindh province, where Karachi is the capital, has been the most affected.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan appealed Saturday to the international community for an “immense humanitarian response” to unprecedented flooding that has left at least 1,265 people dead. The request came even as planes carried supplies to the impoverished country across a humanitarian air bridge.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Officials in Pakistan raised concern Wednesday over the spread of waterborne diseases among thousands of flood victims as waters from powerful monsoon rains began to recede in many parts of the country.

Some doctors said initially they were seeing mostly patients traumatized by the flooding, but are now treating people suffering from diarrhea, skin infections and other waterborne ailments in the country’s flood-hit areas. Many pregnant women living in flood-affected areas were also exposed to risks.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The United Nations and Pakistan issued an appeal Tuesday for $160 million in emergency funding to help millions affected by record-breaking floods that have killed more than 1,160 people since mid-June.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Pakistan’s flooding, caused by weeks of unprecedented monsoon rains, were a signal to the world to step up action against climate change.
