BUENOS AIRES, July 9 (Reuters) - Argentine President Alberto Fernandez called for unity on Saturday as protesters marched in the capital to the gates of the presidential palace, lambasting his government over soaring inflation and a crushing national debt.

The center-left president is facing a rising challenge from a militant left-wing of the ruling coalition that wants more state spending to ease high poverty levels and inflation. Two key moderate allies have left his Cabinet in the last month.

BUENOS AIRES, July 8 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentina’s Defense Minister Jorge Taiana and a team of top-ranking Navy officers are on a trip to Europe to hold talks with several shipyards for the purchase of a new submarine to replace the ARA San Juan, it was reported.

 Five years after the sinking of the ARA San Juan in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean due to faulty maintenance, Taiana left for France and Germany this week to hold meetings with shipyard managers and also to discuss joint military cooperation in the face of the Ukrainian War context.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina’s economy minister resigned unexpectedly Saturday, dealing a fresh blow to the government of President Alberto Ferández as the country struggles with economic problems.

Martín Guzmán stepped down after a week in which Argentina’s currency hit an all-time low against the dollar amid sizzling inflation and truck drivers staged protests over shortages of diesel fuel.

No successor was immediatlely announced.

BUENOS AIRES, May 8 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentina’s health authorities are investigating 8 cases of acute hepatitis which are suspected of belonging to the new variant of unknown origin, Health Minister Carla Vizzotti confirmed.

“There is an alert about cases of hepatitis that are emerging in the world,” Vizzotti said in a radio interview.

“In Argentina, we have eight suspected cases, of which five had a positive PCR for adenovirus and the other three are being studied,” she added.

BUENOS AIRES, April 4 (Reuters) - Chilean President Gabriel Boric, making his first trip abroad since taking power last month, and Argentina President Alberto Fernandez vowed on Monday to cooperate on economic, energy and cultural issues.

"We have challenges that are deeply shared," Boric said at a joint news conference with the center-left Argentina president in Buenos Aires.

Boric, a leftist, traveled to Argentina on Sunday along with a business and cultural delegation.

Chile is Argentina's fifth-largest trading partner and one of its main investors.

BUENOS AIRES, April 3 (NNN-Xinhua) — The Argentine government on Saturday reaffirmed its “unwavering objective of recovering full sovereignty” over the Malvinas Islands, 40 years after the conflict with Britain over control of the South Atlantic territory ended.

“The Malvinas were, they are, and will be Argentinean, and we will always keep the commitment we assumed with the memory of those who died,” President of Argentina Alberto Fernandez said during a ceremony commemorating the conflict in Buenos Aires.
