India: Tri-nation peace rally reaches Agartala

Agartala, Feb 20 (PTI) A cross-border motor rally to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi has arrived here from Dhaka via the Akhaura International Checkpost (ICP).

The tri-nation rally, which commenced from Rajghat in Delhi on February 4, will culminate at Yangon in Myanmar on February 24, covering 7,250km, an official release said.

Kejriwal asks PM Modi to grant full statehood to Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant full statehood status to Delhi, an issue that the ruling AAP is expected to raise in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls in an emphatic manner.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Tuesday said it will hold a door-to-door campaign to tell people how the BJP had done them "injustice" on the issue.

Lockheed Martin unveils new combat jet F-21 for India

Indian PM Modi, Saudi Crown Prince hold talks to expand ties

The crown prince arrived here on a less than 30-hour visit Tuesday night, a day after concluding his high-profile tour of Pakistan where he said dialogue was the only way to resolve "outstanding issues" between India and Pakistan.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrives in India

NEW DEHLI, Feb 20 (NNN-AGENCIES)- Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has arrived in India after visiting Pakistan, on Tuesday.

New Delhi blames Pakistan for a suicide bombing attack last week that killed at least 40 Indian soldiers in disputed Kashmir.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the crown prince at the airport.

Prince Mohammed is expected to make an effort to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan as New Delhi weighs its response to the attack.

India: Work begins on synthetic track at Nana Rao Park

KANPUR: As many as ten thousand people visit Nanarao Park daily that sprawls in an area of 25 acres of land. This park will be beautified with an amount of Rs 9.76 crore under the Smart City Mission. The beautification project will be completed in a span of nine months. City’s first synthetic track, besides one cycle track, will also be developed at the park.

Reserve Bank of India to pay Rs 28,000 cr to govt

New Delhi, Feb 18 (PTI) The Reserve Bank on Monday said it will give Rs 28,000 crore to the government as interim dividend.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the RBI's Central Board here.

"Based on a limited audit review and after applying the extant economic capital framework, the Board decided to transfer an interim surplus of Rs 280 billion to the central government for the half-year ended December 31, 2018," the central bank said in a statement.

This is the second successive year that the Reserve Bank will be transfering an interim surplus.

India: Rape victim hangs self out of 'shame'

Nagpur, Feb 18 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, after she was raped by an accomplice of her friend last week, police said Monday.

The woman, in a suicide note purportedly written by her, stated that she was ending her life out of shame as the incident has become public.

India: Mamata writes to Modi seeking probe into IL&FS crisis

Kolkata, Feb 18 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to initiate a high-level probe into financial impropriety and possible misappropriation of savings of common people due to the debt crisis in Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) Ltd.

The crisis has put to peril "lakhs and lakhs of employees" of private and public sector enterprises who had put their hard-earned money into the company, she said.
