Mexico plans border ‘unity’ rally, nabs 2 migrant activists

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s president said Thursday he will hold a “unity” rally on the border in Tijuana two days before the U.S. is set to impose tariffs on all Mexican imports.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that a demonstration will be held Saturday to defend Mexico’s “dignity” amid a looming threat from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has pledged to impose 5% tariffs on Mexican products unless the country prevents Central American migrants from traveling through its territory.

Mexican president says "very optimistic" about reaching deal with U.S. on tariffs

MEXICO CITY, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Monday that he felt "very optimistic" about reaching an agreement with the United States before June 10, a date set by his counterpart Donald Trump to start imposing tariffs on Mexican products.

"We are not going to engage in a confrontation, we think that an agreement can be reached with the U.S. government," Lopez Obrador said during his morning press conference.

MEXICO CITY, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Saturday he was optimistic about reaching an agreement with Washington over the proposed punitive tariffs on imported goods coming from Mexico.

"There is a willingness on the part of U.S. officials to establish a dialogue and reach agreements," Lopez Obrador told reporters at a press conference in Veracruz, a major port city on the Gulf of Mexico.

Mexican avocado growers expect US consumers to bear tariffs

URUAPAN, Mexico (AP) — The baby avocados in Enrique Bautista’s vast orchard in western Mexico will grow to maturity, eventually, and be shipped out of Mexico.

What remains to be seen is how many of those green gems will reach consumers in the United States if President Donald Trump makes good on his promise to slap duties on Mexican exports should the country fail to stem the tide of immigrants trying to reach the U.S.

Trump tariff threats alarm Mexico growers, economists

Russia to participate in information security forum in Guatemala

MEXICO, May 18. /TASS/: A delegation from Russia headed by Security Council Deputy Secretary Oleg Khramov will arrive in Guatemala at the end of May to participate in a cybersecurity forum, spokesman for the Russian diplomatic mission in the country Arseny Rebrov told TASS.

"On 28 and 29 May, the first Central American forum will be held in Guatemala on the issues of cybercrimes and global information security," he said. "Russia will be presented by an extended high-level delegation," the spokesman added.
