THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — The former head of the Central African Republic’s soccer federation and an alleged rebel commander known as Rambo are going on trial Tuesday at the International Criminal Court, charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity.

THE HAGUE, Feb 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The International Criminal Court’s member countries are set to elect a new chief prosecutor for the war crimes tribunal on Friday, a gruelling job whose current holder is under US sanctions.

Four candidates from Britain, Ireland, Italy and Spain are vying to replace outgoing prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, who has led controversial probes into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Afghanistan.

06 Feb 2021; MEMO: The International Criminal Court (ICC) decided on Friday that it has jurisdiction over crimes committed in the Palestinian territories, Anadolu Agency reports.

"Today, Pre-Trial Chamber I of ICC decided, by majority, that the Court's territorial jurisdiction in the Situation in Palestine, a State party to the ICC Rome Statute, extends to the territories occupied by Israel since 1967," ICC said in a statement.

THE HAGUE, Feb 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The UN’s top court has said it can hear Iran’s bid to overturn US nuclear sanctions re-imposed by Donald Trump, prompting “disappointment” in Washington, which had argued the issue lies outside its jurisdiction.

Iran’s foreign minister swiftly hailed Wednesday’s decision as a “victory” in the case launched three years ago at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - A former Ugandan child soldier who became a commander of the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army was convicted on Thursday of dozens of crimes, including widespread rape, sexual enslavement, child abductions, torture and murder, including killings of babies.

Dominic Ongwen was found guilty by the International Criminal Court of 61 out of 70 alleged counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity. A hearing in mid-April will consider a possible sentence, which could be up to life imprisonment, with a decision expected later this year.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch police detained more than 150 people in a third night of unrest in cities across the Netherlands, where roaming groups of rioters set fires, threw rocks and looted stores in violence triggered by a night curfew aimed at curbing the coronavirus.

The nation’s first curfew since World War Two followed a warning by the National Institute for Health (RIVM) over a new wave of infections due to the “British variant” of the virus, and was imposed despite weeks of declines in new infections.

THE HAGUE, Jan 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The International Criminal Court said it had taken into custody a former Central African Republic commander of the “Seleka” faction suspected of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In a statement, the court said Mahamat Said Abdel Kain had surrendered to the court on Sunday and had been arrested under a warrant issued under seal on Jan 7, 2019, relating to alleged crimes from 2013. A date for his initial appearance in The Hague has not yet been set.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Monday condemned riots across the country this weekend in which demonstrators attacked police and set fires to protest against a night-time curfew to slow the spread of the coronavirus, calling them “criminal violence”.

The police said hundreds of people had been detained after incidents that began on Saturday evening and lasted until the early hours of Monday, including some in which rioters threw rocks and in one case knives at police and burned down a COVID-19 testing station.
