ISLAMABAD, Oct 9 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, met yesterday, with visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman, discussing Afghan affairs and bilateral ties, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said.

World should send pledged aid to Afghans to avert economic, refugee crisis -UNHCR

ISLAMABAD, Oct 9 (Reuters) - The world should urgently provide promised aid to Afghanistan, the U.N. refugee agency said on Saturday, warning that a lack of resources is hampering efforts to avert an economic crisis that could push fresh flows of refugees to its neighbours and beyond.

"The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan remains really dire," Babar Baloch, spokesperson for the U.N. High Commmissioner for Refugees, said in an interview in Islamabad.

"The focus has to be inside Afghanistan to avoid and avert another refugee crisis."

US, Taliban to hold first talks since Afghanistan withdrawal

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Senior Taliban officials and U.S. representatives are to hold talks Saturday and Sunday about containing extremist groups in Afghanistan and easing the evacuation of foreign citizens and Afghans from the country, officials from both sides said.

It’s the first such meeting since U.S. forces withdrew from Afghanistan in late August, ending a 20-year military presence there, and the Taliban’s rise to power in the nation. The talks are to take place in Doha, the capital of the Persian Gulf state of Qatar.

Strong earthquake in southwest Pakistan kills at least 20

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — A powerful earthquake collapsed at least one coal mine and dozens of mud houses in southwest Pakistan early Thursday, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 200, an official said.

The death toll was expected to rise even further as crews searched in the remote mountainous area, said Suhail Anwar Shaheen, the local deputy commissioner.

Utmost efforts a must for Pakistan to join global tech race: President

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi Wednesday said that it required utmost efforts for Pakistan to join the global race of technology which would also guarantee the future national economic development.

The president, addressing the launching ceremony of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) pilot project, said the children’s motivation towards science education would create actual wealth for the country which would later support the industry and IT sector too.

Pakistan leading world on climate action with mega green initiatives: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday said that Pakistan was leading the world on climate action with achievement of the highest climate co-benefits (CCBs) during fiscal year 2021 through a number of mega green initiatives on ground.

On his twitter handle, the prime minister said the World Bank endorsed Pakistan’s vision with 2021 lending data.

The prime minister also shared a graph showing Pakistan’s World Bank commitments and climate co-benefits (CCBs), showing a surge in the CCBs during fiscal year 2021.

Pakistan: PM for vaccine equity, stolen wealth’s return to developing countries

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday reiterated his call for debt relief and prioritizing vaccine equity for COVID-hit developing countries for their economic recovery.

The prime minister, virtually addressing World Leaders Summit Dialogue organized on the occasion of 15th Quadrennial Meeting of UNCTAD, also emphasised the climate finance and return of stolen wealth to developing countries as part of global economic recovery from the devastating effects of the pandemic.

Targeting Pakistan over Afghan situation, unfair: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Saturday said that certain quarters in US were unfairly targeting Pakistan for what had happened inside Afghanistan.

In an interview with TRT World, the prime minister said there was complete shock and confusion in US after its troops’ pullout and swift march of Taliban.

He particularly referred to the recent debate on Afghan debacle in the US Senate as the Taliban returned to power after twenty years.
