Spate of gun violence kills at least 5 in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHA (AP) — Gunfire killed at least five people and wounded others in recent days in Philadelphia, including a man found shot to death on a transit train, authorities said.

A 33-year-old man died minutes after he was shot in the face and neck while sitting in his vehicle in north Philadelphia late Friday afternoon, police said.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the back, torso and leg late Sunday afternoon in southwest Philadelphia and died minutes later, officials said. About two hours later, another man was shot to death in north Philadelphia.

USA (AP) --- When Mike Bloomberg held a rally this month at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the signs of his wealth and influence were everywhere.

Former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, long a paid adviser to one of Bloomberg’s charitable programs and now to his campaign, warmed up the crowd with chants of “Mike will get it done!” That followed a performance of the Nick Jonas song “Jealous” by an a capella group from the University of Pennsylvania, where Bloomberg has funded public health research.

As House impeachment managers make their case to remove President Donald Trump from office, voters in several states said in interviews with The Associated Press that they’re only casually following the Senate trial, or avoiding it altogether — too busy to pay close attention, bored of the legal arguments, convinced the outcome is preordained or just plain tired of the whole partisan saga.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The first anniversary of the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history is being marked around the world Sunday with community service projects, music and an online remembrance.

The shooting on Oct. 27, 2018, killed 11 worshippers and wounded seven at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

3 dead, 4 hospitalized in suspected drug overdose

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Three people died and four others were hospitalized early Sunday in what police said appeared to be a mass drug overdose.

The victims, all men, appear to have taken narcotics at the same time and in the same place in an apartment on Pittsburgh’s South Side, authorities said. It wasn’t immediately clear which drug or combination of drugs was involved. Investigators were interviewing survivors at the hospital.
