YAOUNDE, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Several people are feared dead after gunmen raided a village in Cameroon's war-torn English-speaking region of Southwest, according to local and security sources.

The gunmen attacked the Egbekaw village early Monday, shooting indiscriminately, a person living in the village told Xinhua by phone.

"We have counted about 25 bodies, women and children among, all of them killed. People are mourning everywhere. It is a terrible day," the source said on condition of anonymity.

YAOUNDE, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 hostages held by separatist fighters in Cameroon's restive Anglophone region of Northwest have been rescued by security forces, a local official said Wednesday.

Menyong Gilbert Sunday, prefect of the Bui division of the region, said troops conducted an operation overnight into Wednesday, leading the rescue of 10 men and one woman who were held hostage in "a terrorist camp" in Kikaikom locality of the division.

YAOUNDE, July 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Gunmen killed 10 people and injured two others at a busy junction in the city of Bamenda in Cameroon’s troubled northwest, the regional governor said on Monday.

A witness said the attackers arrived in vehicles late on Sunday, ordered people onto the floor with accusations of failing to back local separatists, and opened fire as some obeyed while others ran.

YAOUNDE, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon hopes to attract more Chinese investment when it takes part in the upcoming third China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, said a Cameroonian trade official on Tuesday.

Joseph Mutomby Ndumbe, director of foreign trade at Cameroon's Ministry of Trade, made the remarks during a promotional conference organized in the capital Yaounde to invite the Central African nation to participate in the expo to be held in China.

YAOUNDE, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Voting for Senate elections is underway in Cameroon, officials said Sunday.

The voting, which began on Sunday morning in 198 polling stations in ten regions of the country, will continue until 6:00 p.m. local time.

"The atmosphere is calm and everything is moving on smoothly," Gabriel Bihina Effila, a municipal councilor who voted in the capital, Yaounde, told Xinhua.

YAOUNDE, Jan 22 (Reuters) - The mutilated body of a prominent Cameroonian journalist was found on Sunday near the capital Yaounde five days after he was abducted by unidentified assailants, the press union and a colleague said on Sunday.

Media advocates described Martinez Zogo's disappearance and death as a further sign of the perils of reporting in the African country.

YAOUNDE, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Equatorial Guinea's incumbent president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has been re-elected as the leader of the Central African country, according to official results published Saturday night.

The results were published by National electoral commission, as quoted by the official website of the government.

Obiang's ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea, which is allied with 14 other parties, won all 100 seats in the National Assembly, all 55 seats in the Senate and all 588 municipal seats, the results showed.

YAOUNDE, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least four civilians were killed after the terror group Boko Haram raided a community in Cameroon's Far North region, according to locals and security sources.

The attack took place Monday night in Moutaz village of Tourou district of the region.

An army official who asked not to be named told Xinhua that the terrorists raided the civilian community after accusing them of collaborating with the army.
