OTTAWA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Canada continued to see a sharp rise of COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with the country's total caseload surpassing 330,000.

Canada reported a total of 330,503 cases of the COVID-19 and 11,455 deaths as of Sunday evening, according to CTV.

Canada added 5,000 news cases on Saturday, setting a new daily record.

Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam urged Canadians to make a plan for safer holidays on Sunday amid record spikes of COVID-19 across the country.

OTTAWA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called on local governments Tuesday to do the right thing to stem record-breaking spikes of new COVID-19 cases across the country.

"We're seeing record spikes this morning across the country. So I'm imploring the premiers and mayors to please do the right thing - act now to protect public health," Trudeau said at a press conference in Ottawa.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Canada reported a total of 272,512 cases of the COVID-19 and 10,629 deaths, according to CTV.

OTTAWA, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said on Thursday that COVID-19 can be transmitted through small airborne droplets.

PHAC updated its virus transmission guidance on Tuesday, bringing them in line with the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO).

"SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, spreads from an infected person to others through respiratory droplets and aerosols created when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, shouts, or talks," the updated guidance said.

OTTAWA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Public Health Agency of Canada on Tuesday urged Canadians to wear face masks that are made of three layers including a filter.

At Tuesday's press conference in Ottawa, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam said that adding a filter layer to masks will provide Canadians with extra protection against COVID-19.

Quebec City (Canada), Nov 1 (AP/PTI) Police in Quebec City are hunting for a man dressed in medieval clothing and armed with a bladed weapon who has left multiple victims.

Police said late Saturday that the attacks happened near the provincial legislature on Halloween.

Police are asking those in the area to stay indoors.

There's no word on how many people were hurt, the severity of their injuries or on a possible motive for the attacks.

OTTAWA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Canada's COVID-19 deaths reached 9,751 as of Thursday afternoon, while the number of infections stood at 193,600, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Canada's daily case counts continue to rise with an average of 2,323 new cases being reported daily in the most recent seven days, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada on Thursday.
