India: Tik Tok star found hanging at her house in east Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) A 16-year-old Tik Tok star alleged hanged herself at her residence in east Delhi's Geeta Colony area, police said on Thursday.

The deceased girl had over one million followers on the short-video platform, and another 1.35 lakh on Instagram.

Police said they received information regarding the incident on Wednesday. Her father found her hanging around 9 pm, they said.

Later, police were informed about the incident.

India registers over 17,000 COVID-19 daily cases for first time; death toll crosses 15,000

New Delhi, Jun 26 (PTI) The highest single-day surge in COVID-19 cases went past 17,000 on Friday, pushing India's tally to 4,90,401, while the death toll climbed to 15,301 with 407 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.?

Updated at 8 am, the data showed the daily COVID-19 cases increased by the highest-ever 17,296 cases.

India registered over 14,000 cases for the seventh day in a row and witnessed a surge of 2,99,866 infections from June 1 till 26.??

India accuses China of amassing troops along border in violation of agreements

NEW DELHI, June 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) — China has deployed large numbers of troops and weapons along a disputed Himalayan border in violation of bilateral agreements, India’s foreign ministry said, accusing Beijing of escalating tensions and triggering a deadly clash last week.

“At the heart of the matter is that since early May the Chinese side had been amassing a large contingent of troops and armaments along the LAC,” ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said in a briefing in New Delhi, referring to the Line of Actual Control, the de facto border.

Indian army chief visits forward areas in Ladakh; takes stock of ground situation

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) Army Chief Gen M M Naravane on Wednesday visited various forward areas in eastern Ladakh and took stock of the Army's combat preparedness in the region in the wake of the bitter border standoff with China, officials said.

Gen Naravane, who arrived in Leh on a two-day visit to the region, also awarded Commendation Cards to a number of soldiers who fought valiantly during the recent face-offs with Chinese Army in the region, people familiar with the matter said.

Delhi violence: Court grants bail to three persons

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to three persons arrested in connection to the murder of a local resident during the communal violence in north east Delhi in February, saying that the police failed to explain how they were identified in the case.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav granted the relief to Israr Ahmad, Mohd Tayyab, Mohd Rizwan on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 20,000 each with one surety of like amount.

India: Cong leaders speak out over border tension with China

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) Amid reports of Chinese build-up at the border, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday said India should force China back by all means as its arsenal is not meant for "hatching eggs".

Several Congress leaders, including P Chidambaram, also spoke out on the issue.

Chidambaram termed as "extraordinary demand" the assertion of China's Foreign Ministry and PLA as they again laid claim to the entire Galwan Valley and demanded that India vacate the area.

India: Class X, XII exams of CBSE, ICSE Boards cancelled

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) The remaining CBSE and ICSE Board examinations for classes X and XII, scheduled to be held in July, have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court was informed on Thursday.

The examinees of class XII students of CBSE Board will however have the option of either taking the exams later or to move ahead with the assessment based on their performance in the last three internal exams. The re-exam option will not be available to class X students.

India: Cooperative banks to be brought under RBI supervision

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) The government on Wednesday said all cooperative banks and multi-state cooperative banks will come under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India, a development aimed at providing comfort to depositors of these banks.

Urban cooperative banks and multi-state cooperative banks will be brought under the RBI supervision process applicable to commercial banks, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said while briefing media about the Cabinet decisions.

"Depositor will be assured his money is safe," he said.

India: Anti-CAA activist Safoora Zargar granted bail

Delhi; 23 June 2020 (UMMN): The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Anti-CAA activist Safoora Zargar on purely “humanitarian grounds”.

27-year-old Zargar, Jamia Coordination Committee Media Coordinator is pregnant, and was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on April 10 in a case related to communal violence in Northeast Delhi.
