India: Book row: Khurshid stands by his views on Hindutva

New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI) Amid a row over his views on Hindutva, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Thursday stood by what he has written in his new book and asserted that Hindutva has pushed aside 'Sanatan Dharma' and Hinduism and taken an aggressive position similar to Boko Haram and the likes.

Khurshid sparked a controversy by comparing a "robust version" of Hindutva to Boko Haram, in his book prompting the BJP to accuse the Congress of weaving a "web like a spider against Hindus".

Indian Govt does not have strategy on China: Rahul

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that the country's national security is "unpardonably compromised" as the government does not have a strategy on China.

He cited a news report where the External Affairs Ministry and the Chief of Defence Staff had a different take on the China border issue.

India: Women unsafe in Uttar Pradesh: Priyanka Gandhi

New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government over the issue of safety of women, alleging that women are unsafe in the state.

Her attack came after media reports claimed that an officer at Bapu Bhavan in Lucknow has been arrested for allegedly molesting a contractual worker after a video of the incident went viral.

"Be it secretariat, road or any other place: Women are unsafe in Uttar Pradesh. This is the reality of the government's claim on 'women's safety'," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: DU assistant professor arrested for wife's murder

New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) A Delhi University assistant professor and his nephew have been arrested for criminal conspiracy in connection with his wife's murder at their West Sant Nagar residence in Burari, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Virender Kumar (38) and Govind (29), they said. One accused person, identified as Rakesh, was arrested on Monday, police said.

Kumar is an assistant professor in Delhi University and posted in Ramjas College. Govind works in a factory in Samaypur Badli, police added.

India, Israel ink 'innovation agreement'

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) In reflection of their growing defence ties, India and Israel on Tuesday sealed an agreement to jointly develop next-generation technologies and products such as drones, robotics, artificial intelligence and quantum computing, officials said.

The Bilateral Innovation Agreement (BIA) was firmed up between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel's Directorate of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D).

Delhi's air quality 'severe' again

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) Delhi's air quality slipped to the "severe" category again on Tuesday with stubble burning accounting for 27 per cent of its PM2.5 pollution, authorities said.

Low temperature -- Delhi recorded a minimum of 13.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the season's lowest so far -- allowed accumulation of pollutants, said Mahesh Palawat, vice president (meteorology and climate change), Skymet Weather.

The minimum temperature is expected to dip to 10 degrees by November 15, the India Meteorological Department said.

Delhi govt hikes minimum wages for labourers

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday announced an increase in the minimum wages of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled labourers, saying it will help them tide over the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and price rise.

The hike takes the monthly wages of unskilled workers from Rs 15,908 to Rs 16,064 while the monthly wages of semi-skilled workers will increase from Rs 17,537 to Rs 17,693, a Delhi government statement said.

India: Woman raped by man on pretext of job in Dwarka

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) A woman alleged that a man raped her after forcefully taking her to a hotel room in Dwarka on the pretext of providing her a job, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on November 6 and according to the victim's complaint, a man named Ankit Sehrawart had been contacting her on the pretext of providing a job, they said.
