India: Vote for one who answers fearlessly: Rahul to voters in Punjab

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) With Punjab going to polls on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged people of the state to vote for the one who supports them and answers fearlessly.

He also urged voters in Uttar Pradesh, where polling is taking place for the third phase, to vote for development, and said a new future will be laid out with the formation of a new government.

Voting for 117 Assembly seats in Punjab is taking place while polling is also underway in 59 Assembly constituencies spread across 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

India: Students in Karnataka stand firm on Hijab

Bengaluru, Feb 19 (PTI) Girl students in many parts of Karnataka were denied entry into their respective educational institutions on Saturday as they arrived in Hijabs, despite a court order, as the issue showed no signs of abating after its flare-up about a fortnight ago that prompted the government to close down colleges and institutions for a couple of days.

India: 'Y' category security to Kumar Vishwas

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) The Centre on Saturday decided to give 'Y' category security to former leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Kumar Vishwas, official sources said.

The central government had reviewed the security of Vishwas and the threat perception based on intelligence inputs in the wake of his allegations against AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

After the review, it was decided to give Vishwas 'Y' category security through the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the sources said.

India: Telangana CM KC Rao to meet Thackeray, Pawar tomorrow

Hyderabad, Feb 19 (PTI)  Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would meet his Maharashtra counterpart Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Sunday as part of his campaign against the BJP's alleged anti-people policies.

Rao, also known as KCR, would meet Thackeray, president of Shiv Sena, at his residence in Mumbai at 1 PM and have lunch with him, TRS sources said here on Saturday.

After the meeting with Thackeray, Rao would go to Pawar's residence and discuss national political issues, the sources said.

India: 'RSS did not play any role in freedom struggle': Gehlot

Jaipur, Feb 19 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday hit out at the BJP and the RSS, saying that the RSS did not play any role in the freedom struggle and the same guilt lies in its top leadership.

Gehlot was addressing the state-level convention of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee at Birla Auditorium here.

He said Congress leaders made many sacrifices before and after the independence and the people of BJP and RSS are suffering from some kind of guilt.

India: BJP MLA in Telangana booked over comments on UP polls

Hyderabad, Feb 20 (PTI) A case was registered against BJP leader and party's MLA in Telangana T Raja Singh over his comments for threatening people to vote for his party in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.

The Election Commission on Saturday censured Raja Singh and barred him from campaigning for 72 hours.

India to host IOC session next year for first time in 40 years

NEW DELHI, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- India won the right to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee's (IOC) session in Mumbai in an unopposed race during the 139th IOC session in Beijing on Saturday.

This will be the first time in four decades and the second time overall that India hosts the IOC session after 1983 when it was last held in New Delhi.

India, UAE eye $100bn in annual trade after signing trade pact

18 Feb 2022; MEMO: India and the United Arab Emirates signed a broad trade and investment pact on Friday (February 18) that will eventually cut all tariffs on each other's goods and aims to more than double the annual trade between the two nations to $100 billion within five years, Reuters reports.

The virtual signing ceremony marks the first trade deal sealed by the Gulf State since it began pursuing such pacts last September in a bid to strengthen its status as a business hub.

India: All corrupt people have teamed up against AAP: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday claimed that all the corrupt people have teamed up against the AAP and said they will get a befitting reply with the inauguration of 12,430 modern classrooms in city schools.

In a tweet in Hindi, he also said the country will not bow down before these corrupt people and move ahead.

"All the corrupt people of the country have teamed up against us. Today, we will give them a befitting reply by inaugurating 12,430 modern classrooms in Delhi schools.
