Iran To Begin Development Of Oilfield Bordering Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN, Aug 22 (NNN-IRNA) – A senior executive of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company said, his country planned to start developing the offshore Esfandiar oilfield in Iran, that is connected to a Saudi oilfield, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported yesterday.

Alireza Mehdizadeh, the company’s CEO, said Saturday, the first phase of the development project, in the Esfandiar field in Iran, which is connected to Saudi Arabia’s Lulu field, will be implemented in the next three years, according to the report.

Iran slams U.S. "barbaric" treatment of detained Iranian

TEHRAN, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- One of the Iranian nationals detained by the United States is "held under dire humanitarian conditions" as his access to emergency medical care is denied, a top Iranian official said on Thursday.

Kazem Gharibabadi, the Iranian Judiciary chief's deputy for international affairs and secretary of the country's High Council for Human Rights, made the remarks in a tweet.

Iran says 2015 nuclear deal revival possible if U.S. shows flexibility

TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iranian foreign minister said on Monday that an agreement on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal is possible in the coming days if the United States(U.S.) shows flexibility in providing guarantees over Iran's demands, semi-official Fars News Agency reported.

Iran will present its final summary on the latest round of nuclear talks in Vienna to the European Union coordinator by Monday midnight, and "if the Americans show flexibility, we will reach an agreement in the coming days," Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted as saying.

Iran seizes vessel carrying smuggled fuel in southern waters: official media

TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) seized a vessel carrying more than 22,000 liters of smuggled fuel in the southern waters of the country, official news agency IRNA reported Sunday.

Upon detecting the vessel, the IRGC's naval forces seized it and impounded the smuggled fuel, Chief Justice of Iran's Hormuzgan Province Mojtaba Qahremani was quoted by IRNA as saying.

Punishments for fuel smugglers include financial penalties, imprisonment, and confiscation of illegal properties, according to Qahremani.

Praise, worry in Iran after Rushdie attack; government quiet

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranians reacted with praise and worry Saturday over the attack on novelist Salman Rushdie, the target of a decades-old fatwa by the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini calling for his death.

It remains unclear why Rushdie’s attacker, identified by police as Hadi Matar of Fairview, New Jersey, stabbed the author as he prepared to speak at an event Friday in western New York. Iran’s theocratic government and its state-run media have assigned no motive to the assault.

Iran weighing EU's proposal on safeguards, sanctions, assurances: Diplomat

Tehran, IRNA – An Iranian diplomat has said that the Islamic Republic is weighing the European proposals to ensure its demands are fulfilled.

An Iranian diplomat, who is informed of the process of the ongoing talks in Vienna, told IRNA that the European proposals would be acceptable if it makes credibility in various matters, including political claims linked to issues of IAEA safeguards, sanctions, and guarantees.

He went on to say that the Islamic Republic is considering European proposals to make sure its demands are fulfilled.

Iranian Navy Rescued Ship Under Attack From “Unidentified” Boats In Red Sea

TEHRAN, Aug 11 (NNN-IRNA) – The Iranian Navy rescued an Iranian ship, from “unidentified” invading boats, after armed clashes in the Red Sea the night before, the state-run IRIB TV reported yesterday.

Speaking in a televised interview, Rear Admiral Mostafa Tajoddini, deputy commander of the Iranian Navy’s strategic operations, said that, the naval forces immediately rushed to the scene upon receiving a rescue call from the Iranian ship under attack by unidentified boats.

Iranians Rally In Support Of Palestine, Against Israeli Bombing On Gaza

TEHRAN, Aug 10 (NNN-IRNA) – Thousands of people rallied in Iran’s capital, Tehran, yesterday, in support of Palestine and against recent Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, state-owned Press TV reported.

Iranians gathered near the Palestinian embassy in Tehran, chanting slogans against the United States and Israel, and waving placards and flags supporting Palestine, the report said.
