India: Restrictions remain in force in parts of Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 6 (PTI) Normal life remained affected for the fifth day on Monday as authorities imposed restrictions in parts of the city to prevent exhumation of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's body from the Hyderpora graveyard for burial in the Eidgah Martyrs' graveyard in old city.

"Restrictions have been imposed around Hyderpora and Eidgah areas of the city as a precautionary measure," officials said.

India: Shashi Tharoor meets Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sep 4 (PTI) Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who heads the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology which is on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Saturday called on National Conference president Farooq Abdullah here.

The meeting took place at Abdullah's residence this evening where his son and party vice president Omar Abdullah was also present.

"Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on IT @ShashiTharoor called on his Lok Sabha colleague & @JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar this evening," Omar wrote on Twitter.

India: Restrictions continue in Kashmir, Internet snapped again

Srinagar, Sep 4 (PTI) Restrictions on assembly of people remained in force in most parts of Kashmir Valley after the death of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani while mobile Internet services were suspended on Saturday morning after being restored the previous night, officials said.

Geelani, 91, died at his home in Srinagar on Wednesday night after a prolonged illness. The pro-Pakistan separatist leader, who spearheaded separatist politics for over three decades in Jammu and Kashmir, was buried at a mosque near his residence.

Srinagar, Sep 2 (PTI) Pro-Pakistan separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani was buried near his residence quietly during the night before some of his close relatives and a posse of security forces as restrictions were imposed in the Kashmir valley for precautionary measure, which also included snapping of mobile and Internet connectivity.

India: 3 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Baramulla district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 24 Aug 2021: Three Kashmiris were killed on Tuseday by Indian security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said the total number of Kasmiris killed in this year has crossed 100.

India: Amarnath yatra concludes in J-K with 'Samapan Pooja'

Srinagar, Aug 22 (PTI) The 'samapan pooja' to mark the end of this year's symbolic annual Amarnath yatra was performed at the holy cave on Sunday amid chanting of religious hymns and mantras, an official spokesperson said.

Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), Nitishwar Kumar, prayed for sustained peace, harmony, progress, and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson said.

India: J&K Gupkar alliance meeting on Tuesday

Srinagar, Aug 22 (PTI) The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration is likely to meet here on Tuesday to discuss the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, and have wider consultations on the way forward.

The PAGD is an alliance of six mainstream political parties seeking the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was revoked by the Centre in August 2019.

India: SSP rank officer suspended in J-K

Jammu, Aug 16 (PTI) An officer of the rank of senior superintendent of police, working as a board member for recruitment of constables in the Jammu and Kashmir border battalions, was suspended on Monday for exhibiting conduct unbecoming of an officer.

An order issued by the J&K Home department said Commandant IR-8th Battalion Maqsood ul Zaman has been put under suspension with immediate effect.

India: J-K expecting investment proposals worth Rs 50,000 cr: LG

Srinagar, Aug 15 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir is expecting investment proposals worth Rs 50,000 core which have the capacity to provide employment opportunities to 10 lakh persons, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said here on Sunday.

"So far, proposals worth Rs 23,500 crores have been received. Investment proposals of Rs 35,000 crore by December 2021 and Rs 50,000 crore by March 2022 are expected to follow, which shall provide employment opportunities to at least 10 lakh young boys and girls," Sinha said in his Independence Day speech at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here.
