Former AU official sees bright future ahead for Africa-China ties

NAIROBI, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- The relationship between Africa and China is expected to strengthen further through various cooperation mechanisms and the future looks bright for such cooperation, a former senior African Union (AU) Commission official told Xinhua recently in Nairobi.

Tigrayan forces say they will 'hunt down' foreign mercenaries

NAIROBI, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Rebellious Tigrayan forces threatened on Friday to "hunt down" foreigners they said were supporting the Ethiopian government as mercenaries and technical experts in a year-long war.

Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) spokesperson Getachew Reda said the foreigners could be from Turkey, China, Israel or the United Arab Emirates.

Government spokesperson Legesse Tulu did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There have been no independently verified reports of the warring sides using mercenaries to date.

Ethiopian authorities detain more than 70 U.N. drivers, amid reports of mass arrests

NAIROBI, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Ethiopian authorities have detained more than 70 drivers working with the United Nations, a U.N. spokesperson said, amid international alarm over reported widespread arrests of ethnic Tigrayans as the war in the country's north escalates.

The ethnicity of the 72 drivers was not clear. The U.N. spokesperson said the drivers are contractors of the U.N.'s World Food Programme (WFP) and were arrested in Semera, the capital city of Afar region.

People fleeing Ethiopia allege attacks, forced conscription

U.S. orders non-emergency government employees in Ethiopia to leave

NAIROBI, Nov 6 (Reuters) - The United States has ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees in Ethiopia to leave because of armed conflict, civil unrest and violence, its embassy in Addis Ababa said on Saturday.

Denmark and Italy also asked their citizens in Ethiopia to leave while commercial flights were still available, as rebellious Tigrayan forces and their allies have advanced towards the capital Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia recalls retired military officers as anti-government alliance forms

NAIROBI, Nov 5 (Reuters) - The Ethiopian army on Friday called on former personnel to rejoin the military to fight the advance of Tigrayan forces, state media said, as nine anti-government factions formed a new alliance to push out Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government.

Called the United Front of Ethiopian Federalist and Confederalist Forces, the alliance includes the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), which has been fighting Abiy's government for a year in a war that has killed thousands of people and forced more than two million more from their homes.

NAIROBI, Oct 29 (NNN-KBC) — The Exim Bank of Korea Friday announced it will fund the establishment of the Human Vaccine Production facility as part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to enhance its healthcare capacity.

The bank’s Director Ms Minnie Chey revealed that they had already received approval adding that they were working on modalities for a feasibility study that will inform the extent of the support.
