French energy giants to join in QatarEnergy's North Field South

7 October 2022; MEMO: French energy giant, Total, will enter QatarEnergy's North Field South (NFS) liquefied natural gas scheme — the second phase of the Emirate's massive LNG expansion programme, local Qatari media reports.

According to the report, QatarEnergy Chief Executive, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, told the Energy Intelligence Forum in London that three new partners will be joining the NFS project, in addition to Total.

Qatar signs deal with US for security at FIFA World Cup 2022

6 October 2022; MEMO: Qatar's Ministry of Defence said yesterday that it has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Defence Department in Washington for US armed forces to contribute towards security at the FIFA World Cup 2022 tournament. The agreement aims to define and organise responsibilities and technical arrangements related to security cooperation, explained the ministry.

Qatar to invest in leading German renewable energy provider

3 October 2022; MEMO: The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) announced yesterday that it has agreed to invest €2.43 billion ($2.43 billion) in the German multinational energy company RWE AG (RWE) to support the company's accelerated "Growing Green" strategy, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

QIA CEO, Mansour Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, affirmed his support for RWE's vision to be a leader in the global renewable energy market.

Qatar expects $9bn in profits from World Cup

29 Sep 2022; MEMO: The CEO of the Qatar World Cup, Nasser Al-Khater, said he expects to reap profits of up to $9 billion from organising the 2022 World Cup.

During an interview with the Baad Ams (After Yesterday) podcast on Al Jazeera on Tuesday, Al-Khater said that the cost of the World Cup projects and expenses amount to about $8 billion, adding that this is less than previous tournaments held in Brazil and Russia.

Qatar confirms COVID test requirements for World Cup fans

29 Sep 2022; MEMO: Fans attending the World Cup in Qatar must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, regardless of their vaccination status, organisers said in a statement on Thursday, Reuters reports.

All visitors aged six and over must present a negative result from a PCR test taken within 48 hours before their departure, or from a rapid antigen test taken in the 24 hours before arriving, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy said.

Turkiye security delegation arrives in Qatar to help secure World Cup

29 Sep 2022; MEMO: A high-level Turkish security delegation arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Tuesday to discuss cooperation in securing the 2022 World Cup due to begin in November.

"Within the framework of security cooperation between Turkey and Qatar, the first high-level delegation of General Directorate of Security from Turkey arrived in Doha," the Turkish embassy in Doha said on Twitter.

According to the embassy, Turkey's Ambassador in Doha, Dr. Mustafa Goksu, and embassy officials received the team.

Turkiye sending 3,000 police to Qatar to help secure World Cup

23 Sep 2022; MEMO: Turkiye will send more than 3,000 riot police to Qatar to help secure World Cup stadiums and hotels in a security operation paid for by the competition hosts but under Turkish command, a Turkish Interior Ministry source said, Reuters reports.

With a population of less than 3 million – of which just 380,000 are Qatari nationals – Qatar faces a shortage of personnel as it gears up for the month-long FIFA soccer tournament.

Qatar to rehabilitate Yemen power plant

15 Sep 2022; MEMO: The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) said in a statement yesterday that rehabilitation works in Yemen's Al-Hiswa power plant will begin this year.

The project dates back to 2017 and aims to provide the southern city of Aden with two mobile power units with a capacity of 61 megawatts, and to train Yemeni cadres to operate and maintain them.

Egypt’s president in Qatar on 1st visit amid rapprochement

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Egypt’s president met on Tuesday with Qatar’s ruling emir during his first visit to the energy-rich nation after ties soured following the Egyptian military’s overthrow of an Islamist president backed by Doha.

The scene of President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi warmly shaking hands with Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani would have been unthinkable just years ago, when three Gulf Arab states and Egypt imposed a boycott on Doha over its sympathy to Islamists and other contentious issues.
