Iran's oil minister visits Venezuela counterpart

03 May 2022; MEMO: Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji met with his Venezuelan counterpart Tareck El Aissami on Monday, according to a video published by El Aissami on his Instagram account, reports Reuters.

"It's a pleasure to have you here," El Aissami said in the video, which gave no details of the meeting.

Venezuela and Iran are both under US sanctions and have tightened their relationship regarding oil in recent months.

Indian PM Modi arrives in Germany on first leg of three-nation Europe trip

Berlin, May 2 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Monday on the first leg of his three-nation Europe trip during which he will hold detailed bilateral discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and co-chair the India-Germany inter-governmental consultations.

Chinese EVs gaining popularity in Israel with green vision

Xinhua: Chinese automakers have gained more and more popularity in the Israeli market with electric vehicles (EVs) amid the Israeli government's ambitions to gradually phase out fossil fuel vehicles.

In a showroom of China's automaker Geely Auto Group in the central Israeli city of Tel Aviv, Segal Yafa, a buyer from the south of the city, has signed a contract for three China-manufactured Geometry C electric vehicles.

   "One for my husband, one for myself, and one for my friend," Yafa told Xinhua.

EU to terminate Russian coal import in summer - Scholz

NEW DELHI, May 2. /TASS/. The European Union will stop importing Russian coal in summer and will do away with Russian oil by the end of 2022, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in an interview with The Indian Express newspaper published on Monday.

The European Union has adopted, along with its transatlantic partners, "unprecedented sanctions against the Russian Federation," the Chancellor said. "Many countries have joined these sanctions, even if this necessarily implies economic costs for ourselves," he noted.

India: Jet fuel price hiked by 3.22 pc to record high

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) Jet fuel prices on Sunday were hiked by 3.22 per cent -- the ninth straight increase this year -- to an all-time high, reflecting a surge in global energy prices.

The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) -- the fuel that helps aeroplanes fly -- was hiked by Rs 3,649.13 per kilolitre, or 3.22 per cent, to Rs 1,16,851.46 per kl (Rs 116.8 per litre) in the national capital, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

India: Fuel sales growth moderates in April due to high prices

New Delhi, May 1 (PTI) India's petrol and diesel sales growth moderated in April while cooking gas LPG consumption fell as record high prices dented demand, preliminary industry data showed on Sunday.

Petrol sales growth moderated to 2.1 per cent in April when compared with the same period in the preceding month, while diesel demand was almost flat. Cooking gas LPG, which had consistently shown growth even during the pandemic period, saw a massive 9.1 per cent month-on-month drop in consumption during April.

Egypt's Suez Canal revenues hit all-time high

01 May 2022; MEMO: Egypt's Suez Canal Authority said Sunday that its monthly revenues hit all-time high in April, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the Suez Canal Authority said the international waterway made $629 million in revenues in April, an increase of 13.6% from $553.6 million last year.

The strategic waterway raised the transit fees for ships since last year amid a boom in global trade movement.

In 2021, the Suez Canal recorded its highest revenues, raking in $6.3 billion.
