Israel to increase gas supplies to Egypt

26 Nov 2021; MEMO: Egypt and Israel have signed a memorandum of understanding to increase natural gas supplies from Israel to Egypt, with the aim of re-exporting, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced yesterday.

In an official statement, the ministry said that the agreement was signed by the Petroleum Minister, Tarek El-Molla, and his Israeli counterpart, Karine Elharrar, on the sidelines of the Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum held in Cairo

Morocco suspends flights with France over rising covid rates

26 Nov 2021; MEMO: Moroccan authorities yesterday suspended all commercial flights with France to curb an increasing number of coronavirus cases.

The Moroccan Monitoring Committee of COVID-19 said in a statement that the decision was taken "to preserve Morocco's achievements in terms of management of the COVID-19 pandemic and to deal with the deterioration of the health situation in some European countries," adding that the suspension will start "on Friday until further notice."

India, UK agree to deepen cooperation in cyber domain

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) India and the UK on Thursday agreed to deepen cooperation in dealing with various challenges emanating from the cyber domain.

At the first meeting of the India-UK Joint Working Group on Cyber Deterrence, the two sides decided to work closely to jointly develop strategies to counter the emerging challenges.

Solomon Islands leader blames foreign powers for unrest

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare on Friday blamed foreign interference over his government’s decision to switch alliances from Taiwan to Beijing for anti-government protests, arson and looting that have ravaged the capital Honiara in recent days.

But critics also blamed the unrest on complaints of a lack of government services and accountability, corruption and foreign workers taking locals job.

UAE in talks with Taliban to operate Kabul airport

25 Nov 2021; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates has offered to operate Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Reuters reported yesterday.

This, the news agency said, was a means through which the UAE was trying to outdo its Gulf rival Qatar in a diplomatic tussle for influence in Afghanistan.

Reuters cited foreign diplomats based in the Gulf saying that the UAE officials have held a series of talks with the Taliban in recent weeks to discuss operating the airport.

Jordan: anger at electricity-for-water deal with Israel

Indian share market in bear grip: Sensex nosedives 1,170 pts; RIL tumbles over 4%

Mumbai, Nov 22 (PTI) Market benchmark Sensex crashed over 1,170 points to log its worst single-day drop in over seven months on Monday amid concerns over government's reform measures after farm laws repeal announcement and weak listing of country's largest fintech firm Paytm.

Extending its losses for the fourth straight session, the BSE gauge plunged 1,170.12 points or 1.96 per cent to settle the day at 58,465.89 its lowest closing level in over two months. In terms of absolute single-session drop, this was the biggest fall since April 12 this year.

India: Driverless train operations on Pink Line in Delhi flagged off

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) In another milestone for the DMRC, driverless train operations on 59-km Pink Line of the Delhi Metro were flagged off on Thursday.

With this, the total stretch of DMRC's network which is under driverless operations, now stands at close to 97 km, putting Delhi Metro at fourth position globally among such networks, officials said.

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot jointly flagged off the driverless train operations via video conference.

Asia bank loans Egypt $360m for covid recovery

24 Nov 2021; MEMO: Egypt will receive a new loan of $360 million from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Egyptian international cooperation minister announced yesterday.

Rania Al-Mashat said in a statement that the funding was aimed at "supporting the state's efforts as it recovers from the coronavirus repercussions, as well as strengthening the government's economic and structural reform programme."
