Israel-Jordan treaty ‘definitely at risk’, says Jordanian PM

02 Mar 2020; MEMO: The peace treaty between Jordan and Israel is “definitely at risk” according to Omar Al-Razzaz. The Jordanian prime minister made this bleak assessment during an interview with CNN during which he warned that the treaty, signed in 1994, was at peril because of Israel’s “unilateral measures” and the Israeli government’s “violation of the sanctity of Muslim and Christian endowments in Jerusalem”.

Jordan Launches Major Project To Provide Sustainable Water Resources

AMMAN, Feb 27 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan on Wednesday, launched the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance National Project, the largest water project in the country.

The first phase of the project will annually generate 130 million cubic metres of water, while the project’s maximum annual capacity will be 350 million cubic meters upon completion, according to the Jordanian Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

Britain's Prince Charles to visit Jordan over bilateral ties

AMMAN, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Britain's Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall will start an official visit to Jordan on March 23 over bilateral ties, said a statement by Jordanian Royal Court on Tuesday.

During the visit, the two will meet King Abdullah II of Jordan and Queen Rania Al Abdullah.

The two sides will discuss ties between Jordan and Britain, and areas of mutual interest, according to a statement by the Royal Court, a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua.

The visit will be the third by Prince Charles to Jordan in seven years.

Jordan On High Alert As Locusts Poised To Invade Borders

AMMAN, Feb 19 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s agriculture ministry said, alert was raised from medium to high, as part of measures to control invading locusts.

Agriculture Minister, Ibrahim Shahahdeh, said, the measure was taken, after follow-ups showed that, swarms of desert locusts had reached some parts of Saudi Arabia, mainly Hail, some 500 km from Saudi-Jordanian borders.

Jordan is able and ready to face the ravenous insects, with the support of the Royal Air Force, the Royal Badia Forces and the Jordan Customs Department, among others, he said.

Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Rejects U.S. Mideast Peace Plan

AMMAN, Feb 9 (NNN-PETRA) – The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU), voiced its rejection of the U.S. Middle East peace plan, announced by U.S. President, Donald Trump.

The remarks were made during the 30th emergency session of the APU, which convened representatives of 20 Arab countries in Amman, capital of Jordan.

At the meeting, Jordan’s Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, said, the Palestinian issue is facing its most difficult conditions, especially as the Israeli occupation is protected by the biased U.S. government.

Jordan lawmaker: Parliament calls on government to expel Israel envoy

Jordanian protesters condemn U.S. Mideast peace plan

AMMAN, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Jordanians gathered in several parts of the capital Amman to protest the new Middle East peace plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

During a rally in downtown Amman on Friday, thousands of Jordanian activists and members of political parties came together to slam the U.S. plan.

Chanting slogans against the U.S. and Israel, they called on the government to take action and urged Arab states to take a unified stance in the face of the deal.

Jordanians Hold Sit-In Against Trump’s Mideast Peace Plan

AMMAN, Jan 29 (NNN-XINHUA) – Dozens of Jordanians held a sit-in near the U.S. embassy in Amman, on Tuesday night (last night), in protest against U.S. President, Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan.

Chanting slogans against the United States, the protesters said, the deal is doomed to fail, as it fails to ensure the Palestinians’ legitimate rights.

“We are here to express our rejection to Trump’s deal … It opens the door for Israel to annex more Palestinian territories,” Salem Hasan, one of the protesters, said

Jordan's PM reaffirms kingdom's stance on two-state solution

AMMAN, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Sunday reaffirmed the country's rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at changing the status quo in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Reiterating Jordan's constant position towards the Palestinian cause, he highlighted the importance of strengthening Jordan's political, economic and social stature, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
